Title: Aussie timber bow.
Post by: bigbob2 on December 07, 2012, 11:32:00 PM
(http://i1256.photobucket.com/albums/ii485/bigbob292/002-3.jpg)Some shots of new deflex/reflex bow ala Kennym. Made from aussie timbers, riser is Gidgee and black wattle. Unfortunately shots dont show figure in grain very well.

(http://i1256.photobucket.com/albums/ii485/bigbob292/006-4.jpg)gidgee is a very hard and heavy timber which has many varieties. This is straight gidgee but ringed and purple gidgee can be spectacular. Unfortunately it is not really available on a commercial level mainly coming from small chainsaw mills. This bow is very smooth on the draw and very easy to shoot. It is cut well inside centershot due to our associations rules concerning bow design and classification, but it still shoots very straight.Hope you enjoy. Bob

Nice bow Bob, I miss all the "funny names" of things back home.  I'd like to see these yanks pronounce some of the country town names.

Very nice, glad to see someone using the amazing timbers Australia has to offer.  I've got a bow with some purple gidgee in the riser, it's spectacular!

I 've been trying to source some purple gidgee and might have got on to some. Its a bit like osage, darkens with sun exposure only it goes purple.A lot of the desert timbers which are not commercially harvested are absolutely spectacular. One called minniritchie have beautiful 'fiddleback' but is harder to find than rocking horse droppings!

Bob, thinking more of the likes of Outabackabogabrie or even a simple one like Wollarawang and Woolamaloo. Where you from.

Razor back I'm living on Sunshine Coast Qld. Get what you mean 'bout that town in Pa.Roy you jossing me?       Haint never heard of a town over here by that name.   :thumbsup:A lot of names here, at least ones that are hard to pronounce are derived from a corruption of native Australian language.

Back again. Think you been nibblin on some moonshine Roy.   :D    :D    Googled for it on Place names Australia and come up with 5/8 of nothing. Did see a few places in US though in different states.

Ole Roy can't handle moonshine, but he could have been drowning in a bucket of Coors light. I hear that's pretty heady stuff, though I don't touch it myself.  :)
