Hey all,
I've got the bug to make this killer bow based off a design I've been thinking about. The osage was harvested in tulsa 2009. Three of us stick bow guys went to o-jam in 09 and Doug down there showed us where to go and gave us his dump dually 1-ton truck to fill up with bow dark. Man what a blast we had. I've never seen three cheese heads so wide eyed over two dump trucks of hedge. It took us two days to fill the truck twice but many people benefited from the harvest including the boy scouts down there at o-jam. :biglaugh:

Am I just beating a dead horse?????
:archer2: :deadhorse:
Hoot in wisco
You cheese heads need to get back down to OJAM in the future. It was a blast having ya'll there. Do you have a picture of the van cramed full of hedge ?
Don't hear much from Littletree, Brad, anymore. Is he okay ?
Hey snakewood,
Yeah, we need to get down there again. This next o-jam is on our list. I got two boys 14TEEN and 12 and they love to shoot bows. We just had a four day trad hunt, camping and hunting all day long. We saw 12 deer two coyotes and lots of squirrels and pheasant. One monster buck stopped short of my circle by three yards. ALMOST! Still very exciting. I'd love to take you up on that invite to hunt hog sometime. May by before o-jam.

look familiar S.W.?
Here's a 29" ntn osage I made n played with over a year n a half ago. It made it to 50@15" or 16" before it split a big lengthwise crack thru most the bow down center. It can be still shot,n if I sinewed it I'm sure I could get 20" of draw with that lil bugger. I still wanna try this in a lil longer version like in the mid 40's and try to take it out to a mid twenty+ inch draw unbacked.

Bring those boys down about a week prior to OJAM and we'll let the hogs chase 'em.
BLKMB, thats some bow! I like it. How wide and do you still shot it w/crack that formed? M 1st design cracked out as well. Sinew seem like the way to go here.
SNKWOOD- I'll try to get the boys there for the hog chase.
Brad is still just over the hill from me. I'm working on a bow that will send an arrow into his front deck. Its only 1.75 miles as a crow flies. I'm waiting for a good tail wind to help arrow flight.
He gave his bow to a younger person and now has been chipping on a stick of hop hb. one end is rough stave and the other is finished shape. All with his knife!!!!!!!lots of blisters and blood. last I saw it was tillered to around 24". I'll tell him howdy for ya.
Hoot
Nice bow.
Rob
Where is this OJAM held?
Im not to far from Oklahoma.
I dont know a single bowyer in my area or even a non mechanical archer for that matter.
Near Stillwater, just north of Oklahoma city.

Where are you at in New Mexico ?
I go the bow laid out and ready to cut.

Cut out the bow yesterday. Looks a little small to shoot, but we'll see.

That thing ought to shoot the heck out of some shish ka bob skewers.
Just got out of the woods no luck. across the road on the other side of the valley my parents say the deer are running laps around there house. Rut is happening right now!!!. Some big buck took a dump right under my tree next to his scrape. Too bad he did'nt show this morning.
Anyway I got this thing cut out and it looks good. Now onto the forms.

Got it bent and clamped down.
Zero lbs at brace is the target.
Thats one hell of a form.
I'm outside of Santa Fe.
Looks to be about 8 hours.
Sharpend- I cut the form to be a little over bent past where I wanted it to go. Then when it came out of the form it decompressed to the desired shape.

Here is the braced shape - the string?
No, here is the braced shape minus the string???? (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x300/knappinhixton/DSC00976.jpg)
I like things that outta the norm., this qualifies!
Dont even go near a chrono... Just shoot it and enjoy it for what it is. A perfect lil brush bow.
Bunnies beware...
Hey found this awhile ago, then forgot wher I found it, now I put it in my favorites.
How did this ever end up? Did she work, how did she shoot?
Did you get your desired wieght?
Hows the hand shock and accuracy?
Please let me know, very curious, love the shorties.
Thanks,
Kevin
I have another question on this.
Where did you get the wood, was it part of what you show being harvested? Was it a piece of standard lumber?
If it was wood you harvested, did you chase it down to one ring, and make it from a stave?
Thanks
Frosty
Hey frosty the B man,
Well, I gotta admit I forgot all about this bow. Been busy putting down a hardwood floor in the new house. Gonna move in one of these years. The bow is osage harvested in Okie land in 09. Chased a ring down and backed with walnut. Stave? yes. Nice and old and gold. She is almost done. Need to get a string on her. I'm thinking of making a string for it out of padauk. I'll post more soon.
Hoot
Padauk string ? Sounds like way too much beer, I mean fun..
Well I have had a few beers since this old project started. I'm glad someone caught the oddities. Padauk for a string?? WTHeck! Here is where I'm at with the bow.
Here it is all clamped up tight to a thin strip of black walnut.

Man I can't wait till this bow is done!!!
AND ???? Gotta' see what comes of this....
Are ya incorperating it into your wood floor?
Yeah, osagetree you would be right. I'm going to put the bow in the floor. The bow goes into a field of birds-eye maple, with an arrow inside of the bow. Bow is walnut and osage, string is pauduk, arrow shaft redwood, point is purple heartwood, and fletching I don't know yet. This project has taken SOME time to execute. I'll make sure to show ya all when it is done.
Hoot
Now it is all making sense...
Can you come down and do my den floor too!
WHAT!!!!!! your turning that cute little due into part of a floor?????????????
Now thats cool/ borderline crazy IMHO. just saying.
I wanted to see the big knarrly old buck you was gonna get with the iddy bitty bow.
I still love dem shorties.
