Hello all
I'm looking for information on making a Laminated English Longbow. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Fiberglass laminated?
For an all wood longbow I'd use either boo or hickory for the backing and either ipe or osage for the belly. Any other wood that can be used for bows will work as the core...the lighter physical weight the better.
Is there any info on specific dimensions and shape of the limbs? Fiberglass would be interesting, I'm not sure if the profile of the back would lend itself to the use of fiberglass, but if its possible, I bet that would really improve performance.
Does anyone know which Bowyers Bible edition has info on the English Longbow?
Any good build-alongs out there in cyberspace.
I would second what PAt said. I'd search for a bamboo backed Ipe build. If its a flatbow you'll just have to increase the final limb thickness a tad and make it a D cross section to make it an ELB style.
If you're looking for a more yew-like appearance, you might wanna try cumaru or maybe Jatoba or something with a more tanish tone and a hickory backing ... kinda to imitate the white/brown look of yew.
What kind of specs are you thinking? weight? length? etc ...
I just sent Pat B a PM, but there is a build-along here on TG for a BBI. I'll see if I can find it and post it here. Here is the one done by Apex Predator.

Hope this helps. I'm gonna be trying the same thing, but like the idea of a little reflex in the LB. Good luck and hope the link helps.
