Title: BBI
Post by: Rick James on July 05, 2012, 03:14:00 PM
Anybody got suggestions for dimensions on a BBI--width and thickness at fades and at the tips--to taper bamboo or not and how  thick to make it? Hoping for something in the 55# range maybe 64" long give or take a few...I did a search but didn't find anything with much of these kind of details...Just trying to get headed in the right direction!
any info would be appreciated, Rick

Rick, most of mine finish up about 1 1/4 " wide at the handle and fade area. The tips start at 1/2 inch and when the,bow is,finished are less than 3/8.
The shape is a delayed taper from the fades to the tips.

Thickness, I start with about 5/8" for a 50 to 60 pound bow.
I do not taper, the bamboo backing. I do make it flat and thin before cutting to the template.
After cutting the shape further thinning will be required since the edges will be thicker now.

I like the edges to be close to 1/16" or even less.

One of the best sources on bamboo backed bows is Dean Torges his DVD is excellent.

I could send you a tracing of my template if it would help

Thanks for the info Ron. I would appreciate it if you could send me that template--is it something that is in electronic format or an actual hardcopy?
thanks again, Rick
