Title: Bow Building 101 - Part 1: Backing a Stave
Post by: Clay Hayes on April 02, 2012, 05:13:00 PM
Below is a link to part 1 of a 3 part series on building an osage selfbow from scratch.  It covers chasing a ring, as well as the various types of wood in a single stave.  Parts 2&3 will be up soon.  Enjoy

Perfect timing as I am working on my first OSB. I need to take some edge off my drawknife. I like the simple, no power tool approach. Excellent quality and content.  Not seeing the third installment though?

Yea, these are great.  They are good tutorials to send to those who want to know more about bow building without alot of the wordiness that gets in the way.

Clay,
Thanks for the videos, I hadn't seen them before. Excellent job! I make bows the old fashioned way as well. Your explanations are spot on right down to the explanation of the sound the draw knife makes on each type of wood. You inspired me to head out to the shop and get going on a bow I roughed out a couple of weeks ago. Again nice job.
Thanks,
Brent
