I'll start
Cascade
Blacktail
Wapiti
Widow
Bighorn
Robertson
Shooting Zippers since 90 & Habu since 99.
All recurves.
-
Started out with a Martin Dreamcather(not really custom but sure shoots sweet) Acadian Woods Cajun Hunter and Jim Brackenbury Old Timer. All are keepers. Looking forward to a Quest in the near future.
-
Bought a Schafer Silvertip 2 years ago, love it. In a moment of weakness bought a Foley Longbow at Denton Hill, like shooting it, but keep going back to the Silvertip. Son will probably end up with the Foley longbow. Just can't tear myself away from the Schafer. In fact, will probably order another one next year!

First "custom" bow I had made for me was a Chek-Mate Falcon Special.
Since then, a Chek-Mate Hunter II and then a Chek-Mate Firebird. I switch back and forth between the Hunter II and the Firebird almost 50/50. Different weights for differnet applications.

-
Lonetree longbow
BW SAIII 60"&62" limbs
Ancient Spirits Kadiak recurve
Ancient Spirits Cahokia longbow
All have been keepers, I shoot my BW SAIII the most and the Cahokia 2nd.
Soon I will have a Shrew Scout to add to the fleet, it may become the #1 of the list.
Have had several none custom bows over the years that I wish I still had.
-
Have 23 bows, most are customs but not made for me originally. My Morrison and Widow are favorites of those. Had two Howard Hills made for me... a Wesley 45# and a Bear Cub 27# that was in response to a physical problem. Both are terrific... exactly as planned/requested. I shoot the 45# every day my shoulder will let me, the 27# when it won't. Have a takedown #45 Tembo on order.

Ouch, I cannot remember. I have had over 80 cutom bows the last 14 years. The keepers are a Jack Kempf Kwyk Styk, SA Black Widow, Blacktail, Robertsons. I have had a lot of others that were awesome. Bob Lee, Wes Wallace, Dwyer, Chek-Mate(6), Seven Lakes, Shrew,Mosshorn and a ton more. The top LBs were a SS Shrew and a Seven Lakes, the 7 Lakes is a very under-rated bow. It is the quietest bow I have ever shot and for the mild R/D it is pretty darn quick. Shawn

My list is as long as any posted, mostly longbows. I regret not owning a Matlock when he was making 'em long and straight.
On my rack you'll always find a couple of Saxons, a few Pronghorns and at least one Fred Anderson Skookum. I keep a couple small game light draw bows, a rough one for fish, and a rainy day bow.
I've been giving selfbows away like mad, so I'm down to four of those....

I like one of the bbo's but it lifted a splinter, the other two I just can't shoot. I can't wait for Mr. Bob to call me and say my limbs are ready.

So that's how he wants to run his business huh?... Well I guess it's time to get on the phone and do a little complaining. ;)
-
too many dang bows!
-
I've only been at this trad thing for about 9 months now, but I have had 10 or 12 bows so far, I buy them, try them, then sell the ones I aint to sure about.
But the two customs I have bought I have kept, they are:
Habu TD Recurve - shoots amazingly well!!!! I shoot it the most.
Chek-Mate Crusader - this is my favorite by far, but I just can't quite shoot it as well as I would like, but I am getting better at it thanks to help from Lost Hawg and Redfeathers!!
I recently bought a Tomahawk Desert Fox that shoots pretty good, but I haven't shot it enough yet to know if it is a keeper or not.
-
Help from Redfeathers and Lost Hawg :bigsmyl: now that's funny Mr. yleecoyote23
I'm telling ya, the boy can shoot!!!
Brent
-
I'm new, so it's a short list.
A martin recurve I got in 1981, and it was old then.
A Java Man Tanjuvar I bought 6 months ago and is responsible for getting me into this mess.
A Bob Lee T/D Signature a month ago, the bow has given me a glimps of how good traditional gear can shoot.
I still have them all.
This summer I'm going to rework the shelf on the Tanjuvar and also see if I can make it a take down. So I'll probably either keep it or accidentally destroy it. In which case I'll be ordering another.
The Bob Lee will stay untill I can afford this: http://www.morrisonarchery.com/shawnee/ShaPhoto/Shawnee/shawnee_4.htmlMorrison
And even then it would probably stay and just be my rainy day bow.
If the Morrison shoots as good as it looks, I could be a one bow guy.
-
I've probably had 20-30 different longbows and 'curves. right now the rack is kinda slim; top to bottom, my 7yr olds Mikuta longbow, Mikuta recurve (F/S BTW), DAS, BW TFX Bacote. The DAS is the one I'm shooting the most. (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y106/lgmarshall/the%20bow%20rack/thebowrack002.jpg)
-
The ones I currently have on the rack:
Massie Longhorn (x2)
3 piece Pronghorn
Super Shrew Deluxe (bought used last December)
Centaur
I can't see myself ever letting loose of the last three. I also have a SS Gold coming in a few weeks and another Centaur that I sent a deposit on last week. This is my favorite thread of all time. Showing my wife some of your bow inventories got me out of the doghouse for the Centaur I just ordered.

Can I count the solid bamboo composite bow that HH made for muh pa?
If not:
First was a Marriah Thermal. One bad mamma jamma here.
Next was a Stotler bow made for me by Bob and Jim Stotler.
#3 Yellowstone T/D longbow.
#4 Yellowstone Renegade
Them Y-stones are the best longbows I've ever shot.
-
To many to count! Plus if I actually put it down in black and white I believe that is called evidence... ;)

Oh, and I've got an Elburg Cheetah, reverse handled 64" recurve that was one of Dr. Ashby's test bows back in the day. Approximately 110# @ 29"... Not that it shoots all that well as it is very similar to a strung 2x4, but a good conversation piece none the less...
Also have an O.L. Adcock ACS-CX Apogee on order... Full Camo (Mossy Oak Forest Floor) with a Bocote medium recurve grip.
Times have changed...

My keepers are my 7 RER bows of which my Favorite is my 56" Vortex 53@28. I would also have to consider my Timberghost T/D longbow a keeper.

-
WoW! Don't know if I can remember them all, but here goes:
Owned: Morrison, Shrew, DAS, Black Widow, Adcock, A&H, Crow Creek, Massie, Warf, Quarf, Quinn, Griffin, JD Berry, and I am sure there are a couple I just forgot. Some I have owned multiples of, like Black Widow. Owned alot of different ones and always will have at least one Widow in the stable.
The bows I currently own are Black Widow PLGA, A&H ACS CX, and a Quarf. One bow I always regret selling was a Massie Longhorn. Best shooting bow is my ACS CX followed closely by a Widow SAV. Best value was definately the Quinn. Would still own the Quinn, but sold it cheap to a close friend. I currently have a bow on order with O.L. and have plans to get another A&H someday (maybe that new 16 riser). Still want to try a Centuar someday and Widows are always held near and dear to my heart. For there rich history, unbeatable customer service, and for such an outstanding product. Probably have a few more of those over the coming years. No since stating the ones I disliked. Many of those have huge followings and just goes to show, not every bow will fit you or your style.
It is a terrible addiction, but there are worse things to be addicted to. Have Fun!!

The one I've been shooting the most lately is the ACS CX Cocobolo RC 64" 50@30. Took me awhile to get used to it but it's the most accurate bow I've ever shot. The one I would never sell is my Widow MAIII, 62" 51@30 that I bought new in 97". With all the bows I've had it's always been my "goto" bow.
-
Way to many to remember. My keepers are Hummingbird, Shrew, Fedora, RER and Firely.
-
I don't know ....... 100 or more ?
I've sold them all, even my precious, most beloved Adcock and kept only one.
All Bamboo Zipper, its what I shoot, and only what I shoot.
for now :)
-
My keepers are all Dryad bows... Between me and my boys we've got 6 custom Dryad bows right now! These are awesome bows and are, bar none, my favorite!

-
No telling what I've had over the years, altho many of them are still hanging in the basement. The keepers? I think I could live with these, at least until I need to drop weight again. Each has their own unique feel, character and spirit.
Selway Lil Mag - basically an early Centaur
Old Dave Johnson Cedar Hill style
Robertson Vision LB with bamboo limbs and juniper veneers
Great Northern Critter Gitter

3 Pittsley Predators.
The Predators are the keepers. Sold the Widow and the Bighorn.
-
Right now I have close to 40 bows and won't take the time to list them all. There are many others that I don't have, but here is my list of favorites in various categories.
Best lightweight and handy bow: Shrew (any model but especially the Classic Hunter)
Best fitted limb (limbs custom fitted) 3 piece: Brackenbury Quest
Best interchangeable limb (limbs not custom fitted) 3 piece bow: Morrison
Best looking bow ever: Blacktail Snakebit
Best deal on a new bow: Holm-Made
Best deal on kid's bow: Maddog Pup
Others will have different opinions, but these are mine. I don't have a Black Swan and want to compare it to my other similar bows. If David Knipes praises the Black Swans, they must be something special. We are very fortunate to have many great bowyers creating the bows we shoot and most of them are wonderful people too.
Allan

I can barely remember which bows are on my rack much less all the one I've sold or traded.

Palmer,1 set standard limbs & 1 set dbl.carbon
Palmer,Single carbon, like better than dbl.carbon
Habu VyperKahn, 3 sets of longbow limbs
Chek-mate Firebird
Cascade Golden Hawk Magnum (52")
I still have the Bighorn, Palmer single carbon, Habu, Chek-mate and the Cascade.
My keepers... the last 3 on the list, Habu, Chek-mate and Cascade. I go back and forth between them. All three are within 1 pound of each other, 48 & 49 @ 27". The VyperKhan is the fastest with 49 @ 27", 60" triple carbon limbs. The Chek-mate at 56" and the Cascade at 52", both 48 @ 27 are not as fast, but are very forgiving and accurate bows. The Cascade, I can shoot from a sitting position on the ground. It is a very good short hunting bow.
I also have a number of Bears and Martins, etc that I shoot from time to time. Jim.

I hope I can try afew more before "This is it, This is the Big One
One used half broken semi cracked flat bow! Check out the post on page ten he's right!
-
i can't honestly remember all the custom bows i have owned,i primarily shoot and prefer longbows.i have ordered a few bows built to my specs from some great bowyers, and have purchased several in-stock bows from several fine bowyers, and have traded and bought many fine bows on the secondary market.i come back to the treadway longbow for keeps, and acadian classic recurve for a keeper.regards robert  :coffee:
-
Hi Robert! Wasn't there a Wallace "Royal" LB that I bought from you? What did you replace it with?
-
I've had many but the wife only allows a couple at a time,LOL!
Love my JavaMan, it's my go to bow right now. Also my Rafferty Legend. Smooth and fast!
-
I am sure it is just my cynical nature but this thread looks to me like nine pages of an inventory that would make the right crook happy as can be. With just a few key strokes an unscrupulous individual could add the physical address of most of us to this information database and know exactly where to cache in on homes that have as many as $10,000 or more worth of custom bows in them. It is kind of a voluntary public bow registry if you will.
I debated posting this because I didn't want anyone to feel like I was admonishing them. If you think I am overly cautious you may well be right. I would like to think that the traditional archery community is devoid of individuals that would take advantage of information like this, but we know it is not. Be careful about what you post on the internet.
-
Good point...
-
hi david, there was indeed a fine beautifull wallace that went to your stable, but in all honesty, with this "sometimer's disease" that i have,i can't remember what came after.lol, best regards, robert :wavey: :campfire: :coffee:
-
I've owned about 8 or 9 customs; Bob Lee, Palmer, Bob Sarrels. My goto bow is actually 2 bows that I like about the same and would not part with for any amount of money = My Bob Sarrels 3pc takedown longbow and my Bob Sarrels 3pc takedown recurve. Both are 50#@28".
Bisch
-
I have had several custom and production bows. I currently have three bows that I will not part with.
1. Abbott longbow
2. Thunderhorn longbow
3. Early 70's Bear Grizzly
I have a Brack Quest in production right now that I'm sure will be with me 'til they close the lid on me.
-
i have owned a few bows but the one that will sick with me for good is my kanati
-
Owned a few but the Bill Stewart multi cam takedown stays no matter what. The others may look nicer but their performance just doesn't match one that Mr. Stewart built.
-
I've owned 21...Several Kotas and Morrisons as they are my favorites.
-
2 Kanatis
Tomahawk
Martin Savannah
Samick Predator
Kota Prarie Nomad
Navajo Apache
Northern Mist Baraga
The Baraga is my favorite.
-
Man I can hardly remember what happened yesterday. From the mid to late 60's to now its probably close to 200 thats conservative.I think of the ones I've had and sold, brings tears to my eyes!LOL. I only have 24 now.
-
I honestly dont know how many I've had - let me see..bear montana, widow MAV, widow MAIII, widow SAX, widow KB, widow PLX, widow PLX, widow PLX, morrison cheyenne, shrew, bob lee, bob lee, bob lee, wallace mentor, morrison dakota, liberty chief, pronghorn, pronghorn, bear grizzly, bear kodiak mag...give or take a few. My keeper is one of the T/D PLXs.
-
Well I started a couple of years ago. I've had
Acadian Woods
Check-Mate
Black Widow
Bighorn
Thunder Stick
Toelke
and a few I don't remember
I still have the Bighorn for a recurve (2 sets of limbs) and one of the Toelke's for the longbow. It's been hard to weed them out, but I was just shooting these anyway, so I figure let some one else enjoy them.
-
rose oak
assinheimer
blacktail
massielonghorn
silvertip
northernmist(3)
I will probally never part with me silver tip
-
I had two Heritage customs by Rocky Miller; this was in the 80's when I thought I was man enough to shoot 70 pounds. One was a t/d recurve, the other was a Hill style longbow.
I have several other bows, but the only one that I ordered to my specs is my Big Jim TC. I like it so much that I have a Big Jim Buffalo bow on order right now. Can't beat Big Jim's workmanship and artistic eye.
-
I started this thread 6 years agos and at least that many more bows and I'm still shooting the Habu's and Zippers.Only thing that has changed,is that I'm shooting a Habu longbow.
-
Bows I've had made for me,
Black Widow MAII- sold
JD Berry,Serpentine- Still have it
Sentman,carbon deluxe- Still have it
LaClair,origional Shrew- Still have it
Elburg,Can't remember the model-Sold
Howard Hill,Wesley special-Just got it
used custom bows I've bought
Howard Hill,Black bear- still have it
Pete George,Timberline-Not going anywhere!!!!
Black Widow,SAIII-sold
Custom bows given to me by a friend
Heritage archery,Bridger Mt-still have it
Meland,NightHawk-still have it
I like "D" longbows the best,so I love the Timberline and the Hills,so they'd be my keepers.
Don't think I'd let the JD Berry go either, shoots great and his workmanship is 2nd to none. All the others shoot great(that's why I still have them) but I'd let them go for the right $$$.
Here's a pic of the Elburg I sold, wish I had this one back. Anyone know the model name?

I really like my Tracker by Stalker Custom Recurves
-
Black widow PSA
Big Jims Buffalo Long Bow
Treadway x 3
Keep it simple longbow
Black Creek Banshee Longbow
Robertson Mystical Longbow
Zipper ILF
Blacktail Elite VL
The blacktail is the best bow I have ever shot, I have a new one on order, have sold everything else except the Zipper, and thats for sale
-
I guess my keeper custom would be my Black Widow MAII. Although I have a love/hate relationship with this bow it is the one I shoot the most. I bought this bow in 2000 when I landed my first decent job and It will be my son's some day. However, my Roy Hall bow is really growing on me.

-
I've had only one bow built specifically for me and it is a Schafer Silvertip.
A BigFoot Sasquatch is due in about 30 days.
I've found several from Trad Gangers that are as good as "custom" because they fit me like Jim Carey's glove.
-
I agree with the "inventory" post--I've wondered the same thing. I would never think to post the gear that I keep to protect my bow stash.
Of course since I'm a lefty only 1 in 10 evil-doers would be interested.
I doubt many of the scumsuckers can even spell Trad Gang.

I agree. However, custom bows I wouldn't think would be a great thing to steal and try to sell massive amounts of. This community of traditional archery fanatics is fairly small in comparison to the gun world. I imagine that it would be fairly difficult to resell that many bows without someone recognizing the original owner somewhere down the line. Not to mention they aren't the smallest inventory items to transport. You would need a large van for some of you guy's collections, and the perp would have to make many trips in and out of the house.
I also imagine that most Tradgangers have firearms. ;)

Omega archery 62"
two tracks ambush for a little
my 66" omega broke on me last summer and the bowyer replaced it with the 62", I love these bows, just really fast, accurate and priced great
beeler I sold, wasnt a bad bow though, just to light weight for my likings
Hunter bow 3 piece by Idaho curt, will stay. Love the grip, smooth draw and accuracy. plus its beautiful!!!!!! His bows are works of art
two tracks I did a trade on and we both decided to do a trade back. the two tracks grip just didnt work with my hand at all, arrow was riding on my hand. besides that it was a great shooting bow and I wouldnt mind buying one in the future.
-
Too many-- Shafers and Leon Stewarts slammers
-
I've only ordered 3 custom bows and I still own them, wouldn't consider a used bow that I'd pick up as a custom 'cause I wasn't the one who ordered it but that's just me...
a blacktail one piece
a blacktail takedown
a dywer orginal....
so many quality bows to choose from out there these days alot of talented bowyers!
most likely sometime before I get another new or used bow.......just bought another canoe today....
-
I've had more Fedora's and Fred Bear bows than you can shake a stick at. Plus a few others. Still looking for my keeper  ........IJ
-
I've owned a few different bows... but I have settled into the 2 bows in my signature for the long haul. After much consideration, I have decided that the only likely future bow purchase I can see myself making would be for a heavier PLX, or a set of limbs for the PMA at about 57#. For a while I very strongly considered purchasing an Acadian Woods, but decided that since I am extremely pleased with the widows, why introduce a bunch of new variables by adding a new setup to my bow rack? I want to master the art of shooting, not be constantly adapting to new bows.
-
Bows keep coming and going .. but I'm still shooting my broke in Hummingbird (longbow).
-
I've owned four different customs over the years. I've sold them all except two. My Pittsley Predators !

-
I currently have a Predator Classic Recurve, Blackswan Longbow, and Mystic Robertson Stykbow.
-
I've had a bunch. Maybe a dozen or more......
My keepers are:
* My first custom bow, a big horn recurve. I never shoot it but I will never sell it.
* next is my 21 century long bow, this bow put lots of meat in the freezer. it has a place of honor in the bow room
* next is my black widow longbow, now my #1 backup.
* my go to bow (now) is my Mohawk which also has quietly put serious meat in the frig.
-
Black Widow MA11 take down recurve.
Black Widow SAX take down recurve.
A&H 3pc LB
Fedora 560 1pc recurve

How it all started, visiting Bear Bow collector Al Reider back in the mid 80's, there hanging on the wall were two rather distinctive looking bows.
Hanging with them was a framed letter. I said who made those bows, Al said, those are Jack Howard bows , "the best bows ever made".
The letter was from Jack, they were two of Jack's personal bows he hunted with, with original sights.
And so the journey began.

wow some impressive lists.
I bought my first non compound 5 years ago,
Shafer Silvertip 60" 58# at 28.5" custom built for me. It's all I have shot for 5 years.
I guess I'll buy another when it wears out.

Bighorn recurve
2 Bighorn longbows
Robertson recurve
Robertson longbow
2 Great Northern SuperGhosts
Hollenbeck longbow
2 Wild Horse Creek longbows
Only ones that I still have are the Wild Horse Creeks. They just fit me.
-
At Compton this weekend I ordered my very first custom bow, and it's funny that I should follow Hermon here...
I ordered a Wild Horse Creek Kestrel, 58" 53@28. Myrtle veneers over Red Elm limbs, Myrtle and Wenge riser, beavertail over locator grip.
I had come across Mike's work here on TG some time ago, liked what I saw and started doing a little research. Liking all the great things I was hearing I headed to Compton with the intent of shooting and trying out Mike's bows.
Am I glad I did!
I'll be sure to post pics in roughly four months...the wait begins!
Oh, and I did buy a new in-stock bow from our very own Big Jim to hold me over. Thunderchild 56" 50@28. Sweet shooter.
-
I've had quite a few, mostly Sarrels, but a Palmer and Bob Lee too, both recurves and longbows.
They will have to pry my Sarrels Blueridge takedown longbow from my hands once I am dead and gone though! On second thought, I may just get buried with that bow!
Bisch
-
All customs sold, traded or given away.
Last Bow Standing - Liberty Contender :goldtooth:
-
Keepers are:
Morrison Cheyenne - foam core recurve limbs
Zipper SXT with Evolution foam/carbon recurve limbs
Zipper Nitro LB - foam core/carbon limbs
Tall Tines recurve
Black Canyon recurve
-
I have had hundreds of custom bows I purchased used over the Internet and just about every make trying to find the perfect bow for me.
The only new bows I ever ordered were:
Tonkin Big Horn (Ron Maulding) Longbow
Black Widow MA
Howard Hill Wesley
Jack Harrison
Rivers Edge
Sovereign Ballistik
I ordered one other new bow and hated it so much I returned it and paid a $200 restocking fee. I have never done that with any other bow - new or used. Rather than sell it I did the restocking because I can't be dishonest and if someone asked me why I was selling or what I thought about the bow I could have never sold it.
These bows were all keepers but now the only bows I keep are Jack Harrison, Howard Hill and Ron Maulding. I also have a custom 67.5 Bear Super Kodiak. It is my only recurve. All my other bows are longbows.
I have found that after testing over 300 bows in 3 or 4 years, that they are all nice and are close in performance. Any of them with the exception of one could have been considered
a keeper. It is all personal preference.
Out of all of the bows I have shot (recurves or longbows) I have one Jack Harrison El Lobo longbow that he made for himself. This bow is special and the smoothest drawing bow with the least amount of hand shock I have ever shot. It is a good performer too. I wouldn't sell that bow for any price. It is my daily shooter and hunter. I also have a Schulz made Howard Hill Tembo that is a special Hill bow I shoot.

Favorite customs:
Pronghorn
Shrew CH
Kota recurve
I could live happily ever after with any one of them. They are all in the 51 to 55 lb range. There must be something wrong with me, as I don't feel any need to try anything else. Well, maybe a 3 piece Pronghorn...
-
I have only had 2 custom bows and they are both Tomahawks. They are both still with me.
-
My Morrisons for sure!
-
My keeper list:
7 Lakes Long Night
7 Lakes Short Night
The blank I finished from 7 Lakes.

I've traded away or sold all the others.
-
Hoyt

Centaur
BigJim
Thunderstick
Beeler
BlackWidow

Bought and sold a bunch of each and still selling a few. Will always keep :
Chek-mate recurve
Thunderstick MOAB
-
I've only had 2 custom bows over the years...one Halcomb takedown recurve and one Great Northern Critter Gitter. The Halcomb takedown hangs on my dad's wall now and I'll get it back one day. The Critter Gitter I just bought a year and a half ago and I plan on keeping it a long, long time. Especially now that Jerry isn't making the Critter Gitter model anymore.
-
I've had several customs over the years but have only hung on to one...my Silvertp! It's not going anywhere! I have a Kanati coming in a couple month's, hopefully it will be a keeper too!

Started with ACS A&H, right and left hand 3pc, three sets of limbs, one given to my grand son.
Black Widow greybark,
Archery Traditions given to my son in law,
Stalker long bow,
shoot the ACS almost all the time.
Would like to try some more and looking for an anbidextrous riser bow.
-
2- BW pch 56' and whisperstyck 58' love both but always go to Widow in the end.
-
I've owned the following bows:
Robertson Primal Styk
Toelke Whip and Super D
Howard Hill Big Five
Hummingbird 20th anniversary longbow
Great Northern Critter Gitter and Super Ghost
Wes Wallace Mentor and Royal
Cari-bow Peregrine
Leon Stewart take-down Slammer
RER Vortex II
Wild Horse Creek Vision
Mohawk Sparrowhawk
Jim Curlee Longbow
Whisperstik Mojostik
Frederick Longbow
Liberty Contender
McCullough Tsunami and Griffin
I've sold most of these bows. The only bow I have purchased new is the Sparrowhawk, but I do have a Whippenstick Phoenix and Whipplash on order and an LS Slammer on order.
My favorite longbows are my Caribow Peregrine and Wild Horse Creek Vision. Leon Stewart's take down slammer is also an amazing bow.
I generally prefer longbows, but I haven't been able to part with my Wes Wallace Mentor. That is one smooth bow that really slings the arrows, and it's beautiful.
-
About 70+ as best I can estimate, along with quite a few "production" bows....waaaaaay too many to list, currently have about 18. Mostly just shoot Hill style longbows now, but still hang on to one recurve and 3-4 hybrids. What I have learned over the years with all these bows is that there really is very little difference in any of the good longbows. I have had several of what would be regarded as among the best, not all but lots, and they all are very close in shooting characteristics. Because of that I have a hard time any more convincing myself to buy more though there are still some out there I would like to own, but I know already that when they would come I would find they shoot like the rest of them I have. I'm trying to be happy with the great bows I have. Been doing fairly well the past few months. I'm like the guy who once told me he could stop smoking any time he wanted to, no problem--had done it a thousand times, :biglaugh:
-
I could never name them all, when this site started I startedbuying and trading heavy duty for about 5 years. I have owned bows from at least 75 different bowyers and over 150 bows. I have a few I like. RER, Border, Jack Kempf and Robertson. Keepers none are for sure keepers!! :knothead: :bigsmyl: Shawn
-
Texas recurves Comanche 9 of them.
Texas longbows Apache 3 of them.
Best bows and best craftsmanship until CNC came along and prices skyrocketed for a custom made bow!!!!!!
Have owned Schafers, Hills, Morrisons, Widows, Robertsons. All very fine bows.
-
Journeyman XR
TwoTracks Ambush
Voodoo Kustom
McCoulough 59'er

the favourites are-
S-Tip TD RC
S-Tip 1pc RC
Morrison wood riser HEX6 limbs
Have a 1pc S-Tip LB coming that should be ready any day (getting a bit excited)
-
To many to list, You could probably go through more than three quarters of the bowyers on this site and I've probably owned at least one of there bows. I know I have owned at least 15 Widows and 12 Shrews 4 Centaurs 11 Leon Stewart Longbows It is really disturbing to start thinking about it!
Schafer Recurves seem to be where I keep ending up.
-
I have had many, an now just one.bows are like women when you find the perfect one ya keep her. that bow for me is THE SCHAFFER SILVERTIP. It dont get no better.
-
I have also owned my share. The bow that I feel most comfortable with is my Mohawk. A Toelke Whip given to me by my friend is a close second.
-
The only custom bow I ever bought was a Bob Lee Sig Takedown Longbow in '97. Never shot another bow that made me want to change. When I am ground hunting, I love being able to stick it in the dirt. It just stands there like its on a bow holder. Something comes by, grab it, pull it out the dirt and let her rip... I love things that work well and can take some abuse without crying like a titty baby. I think I would like a recurve but - they don't stick in the ground very good.
-
Had:
2 Treadway Black Swamps
Assenheimer Master Elite
Pronghorn 3 pc longbow

-
Black Widow, Robertson, Zipper, Shafer, Big East, Big Horn, Wes Wallace, Stotler, Bill Stewart, Leon Stewart, Hill, RER, Abbott, Great Plains,...I'm sure I'm leaving some out. The only custom I have now is a Stotler longbow. I have a bunch of vintage Shakespeare, Bear and Browning bows but I'm mostly shooting ILF now. Morrison and T-Tech risers with various limbs

Still the Zipper and Habu are my keepers.I've also added a Silvertip.
-
I may have already responded to this thread, but this is POST 1000, so why not!
Mahaska
Lofton
Lode Star
River Raisin
Holm
Miller
L. Stewart
Zipper
H.Hill
Black Creek
Dwyer
Bob Lee
The one bow I refuse to even think of selling is my Miller Old Tom. That bow is just special. THE quintessential Hill bow of today. Just a pure, simple, elegant bow that shoots. Close second is my L. Stewart takedown. The rest have come and gone. Still have the Black Creeks and the Bob Lee. The rest were great bows, but I didn't keep em so that means I was still looking for something better. The one I let go that I was still impressed with to this day is probably the Dwyer. They know how to make a dang fine bow.
-
My first was a Dick Boss. Second was a Chek-mate atilla, then MOAB, then Lost Creek, and know I have a Hill Country Harvest Master.
-
Since I began trad. archery 3 yrs ago I have been searching for "The Bow". I started with production bows by Pearson and Bear and still have some of them in the lightest poundage for "training". Then I got into Howatt Hunters. To me they are the best production bow there is. Especially the older ones.
Then I started buying used custom bows. Just trying anything that looked like it might be for me. Lots of Robertson's older and newer. Still have 2 Raven Styks. I loved a Sweptwing TD recurve and should never have sold it.
I have a sweet Rampart recurve in all Osage
I have 3 Blacktail Elite. 1 td w/ 2 sets of limbs, and 2 1 pc.
And my 2 Toelke Whips. They are awesome.

-
I've had a ton!
I really like the Toelke bows for quality ,design , speed ,smoothness and feel in the hand.
-
My keepers right now are my Silvertips. Been shooting them for two years. Starting to get an itch for something different, but I'm trying to fight it. :banghead:
-
I've owned a lot of longbows, and a few recurves. I have seven longbows on my rack now. My top three are:
Fox Triple Crown with a low / medium grip. Love that bow.
Black Widow PLX. Never though I'd like BW's, but this is a keeper.
Timber Point. This bow is for 3D and target. Wonderful bows.
And I do have a nice Tim Meigs "Deluxe Bamboo Longbow" -- a real find.
The Timber Point is the only bow I bought new.
-
I've only owned two custom bows made by other bowyers. A Blackwidow and a Zipper. I started making my own recurves 15 years ago and now each are custom made. Some 13 to be exact. Most given away to friends. My latest, a copy of the 62 Bear Kodiak, is my favorite. Been using it the last few years and can't see me hunting with any thing else. Absolutely love this bow.
-
I've owned 5. I've shot closer to 200-250 trad bows at a local shop over the year. The very best shooting bow I've shot to date is my Sarells in my signature. My ONLY complaint (if you can call it that) is that I wish it were a two piece so I could drop it in an AR rifle sized Pelican case for traveling.
-
75+ custom bows.
1. Voodoo Elk Riser Longbow
2. Hoyt Huntmaster Recurve Customized
3. Texas Recurve
4. Palouse Static Recurve and Longbow
5. Arner Longbow
-
I have had over 100 custom built bows and many I have miss judged. I wish I knew what I know now. My top bow is a Miller Expedition longbow, and I am hoping to get the White Eagle Jerry Hill. Nothing can be compared to the best that Hill shot. I do have a place in my heart for Kim Sha long bows and Bruin and Zipper recurves. You can spend thousands, buy it is up to you to tune and learn to shoot the bow.
-
I've had 3 custom bows:
Big Jim Thunder Child- 56" 50@28"
Toelke whip 2pc- 58" 43lbs @ 26"
Tall Tines 3pc Recurve- 58" 55lbs @ 28"
I will say all three bows are keeper worthy as they all have features I love. I absolutely loved the 2 long bows listed and I think both Bowyers make an outstanding product. I was having trouble with my elbows so I had sold both of them bows. The Tall Tines is my current set up and though it's the heaviest of all three it seemed to not aggravate my elbow as bad. I also saw a physical therapist and had a fellow trad archer show me some massages that helped me tremendously. So my tall tines is my keeper but giving the opportunity I'd buy back my two previous bows in a heart beat.

Have a new king of mountain Barry Huson recurve

Also have an O.L. Adcock ACS-CX Apogee on order... Full Camo (Mossy Oak Forest Floor) with a Bocote medium recurve grip.
Times have changed...
I don't think I own any of the bows listed above anymore...

Kind of funny, really started with the Widow SA, and after 15 years or so and a bunch of bows landed right back where I started...

Hah, Derrick that is an awesome bow no doubt!!! Exactly what I wanted at that time!!! Glad you are enjoying it to the fullest!!!
Truthfully I could be happy with any one of my bows now until the end of time... But I do have one SA III with 2 sets of limbs that has been named Reaper for good reason... Critters just seem to die when it heads to the woods... Nothing fancy, but it gets the job done when asked... 2 pair of limbs, 62# and 73# at my draw... Both sets have taken game this year and I don't see them doing any less in the future... Love that bow!!! The 73# limbs are rough, and could use a refinish/repair but the got the job done again this year...
-
Bowhunter4life, I have one of yours too. A Kempf Kwyk Styk. Sweet bow. Thanks for putting it on the market.
-
I've had exactly 4 in 31 years of shooting. A 92 Bill Kerner Allegheny Mountain recurve, a Wes Wallace recurve, an Aspen longbow by Chris, and a Robertson Montana Falcon. The rest were Bear and Ben Pearson factory bows.
The only custom I have left is the Kerner, probably because when I bought it, Bill and I spent several hours working on the riser together, me shooting and suggesting, and him shaping until I said, "Perfect." For that reason alone I'll never sell it, but also because it shoots better than any other bow I've ever owned. However, there is a good chance I will be switching to lefty, so it won't get shot as much in the future.
-
Seems like I've had a bunch of bows, but I just have a few at a time. I have had a blast trying them all.

I've had a few. Asbell Bighorn. Wind Walker. Black Widow. RER, and three Pittsley Predators. I still have the Wind Walker and all three Predators.
-
Oop's I forgot one. A three week old, Rose Oak Heritage T/D. This one will be a keeper !
-
I have two; an Earnest Gilbert Canoochee Warrior take down recurve(made by Jeffries) and Mike Treadway "Moose Horn" mild R/D longbow. Both cost $300 when I bought them. I still have both but never hardly shoot either because I prefer selfbows, sinew backed or all wood backed bows.
I have lots of selfbows, some made for me and some given to me or I traded for.
-
Mahaska recurve, Thunderstick Mag, Lost Creek, Kanati. Sold them all for my two Kanati's. You'll have to pry these from my cold dead hands.
-
Forgot Widow HS
-
I have 5 customs.
2 BLack Widows.
1 Fedora 560 one piece.
1 JD Berry Yahew (spelling ).
1 Green Mountain LB flat bow Stingray.
-
2002 Bob Lee Classic T/D recurve
RER XR T/D
RER Vortex longbow - 2 piece T/D
-
Let me see if I can remember....
Bob Lee Ultimate
Tall Tines
2 PCH's
PSAV
Timberghost hybrid
Great Plains SR Swift
2 Pittsley Predators
Schafer Silvertip
Bigfoot Sasquatch ILF (it and one Predator are all I have left out of that list).
-
As most know, what one likes in a bow is 90% or higher personal preferences. For me it must be a recurve. Then it must have a substantial riser (not 50's style). The grip must feel good. It must be quick, quiet, and very low hand shock. It must be well made and finished. Finally, these days it must contain interesting wood combinations and grain and I prefer heavy woods.
-
Robertson,
wild horse creek (3)
prong horn
I'm shooting the wild horse creek two piece exclusively now.
-
Blacktail
-
jd berry blackwidow centaur on order

I Have four Navajo Longbows, 8 Griffins made by John McCullough, One Recurve that is a Zipper with four sets of limbs, One Morrison Recurve bow, A Wapiti Recuve that has 2 sets of limbs, and One Frederick Longbow. And last but not least a High Sierra Recurve with two sets of limbs, I almost forgot the High Sierra Recuve that has two sets of limbs and my wife thinks that I have two many! Can you imagine that?
-
Silvertip one piece X2!
-
I have had a bunch of customs over the years - Silvertip, Zipper, RER, BOB Lee, etc. I'm a recurve guy at heart, but I'll tell you my keepers are two Leon Stewart longbows. One is a takedown Slammer and the other is a one piece Little Slammer. My keeper recurve is a Tall Tines and two that my Dad made me 30 years ago.
-
Northern Mist Ottawa 49#@28, 60". Great bow, I've killed a bunch of hogs with it.
Wild Horse Creek Mariah, 50#@28", 54".
Both draw and shoot amazing and are real beauties.
I can't resist 1950's style recurves so I had both of those built custom for me.
Mike Dunnaway at WHC even managed to duplicate the sweet grip on the NM for me. I can't seem to put that bow down.
-
Had a morrison ilf with tt limbs but I wouldn't call it custom.
Now I have:
predator classic, toelke whip and whippenstick longbow.
The whippenstick is the keeper when it comes to longbow and the predator for recurve or form work. In general I would go with the whippenstick, it's fast and furious, and I'm getting more and more accurate with it!
-
I want to thank you guys for posting all these lists, now I can show my wife I'm really not that bad when it comes to having bows around. LOL!!
-
I have had 2 made for me. A Mikuta one piece longbow and a Lost Creek NAT. Loved both but shoulder surgery forced the sale of the Mikuta. That Lost Creek NAT is my go to every day love to shoot it & hunt with it bow.
-
Ive had probably 100-150 different customs all bought used except for 5 a Checkmate Hunter II, Timberhawk,Crooked Stic, Asenheimer and one I wont mention on here..I really do not have a keeper, I shoot them till I kill a deer or 2 or get tired of them..
The Crooked Stic I just got a few weeks ago is a really nice shooting bow..
-
Jeff I can't list them because that would be self incriminating :readit:
