I have the preserve all lined up, and the owner is anxious to help me with it. Can anyone offer advice as to things I will need to consider when setting it up? My lab is a great bird dog, but he's a flusher, so shots will be fast and tough.
Any info would be appreciated!
Bring lots of arrows. :^) I was in a group bird hunt a few years ago and we were restricted to field points, blunts, and judos (no broadheads) as the dog handler had concerns for his dog. All of the above did the trick, though not as quickly in some cases as a broadhead would have.
If they are setting the birds, try to have them put out in a pattern that will let you travel in the direction your shooting. Easier to grab arrows as you move on to the next site. Use bright colors on fletching. It may not be as much fun but you may need to put the dog on some sort of leash. I've only done this once, we had 10 or more shooters. If everyonwe can get close in a curved line the majarity can get a shot. If the bird flushes across the group some will have to hold their shot for safety reasons.
