Title: 100 watt lightbulbs
Post by: JamesV on December 22, 2011, 04:18:00 PM
Don't know if the ban is still going to take effect Jan 1. on 100 watt lightbulbs. If you use them in your hot-box you might wanna stock up. I found a 4pack 100 watt bulbs for a buck at the big box store.  (W***M***)

I've been thinking about this too.  I've got a few stock piled, but I better head to Wally World and get some more.

We had same problem over here as incandescents were phased out some time ago , but the 75 watt halogen is equivelant to 100 watt incandescent and are readily available here in supermarkets reasonably cheaply.

I think the ban has been put off for about 6 months.

I have always used 200W in mine.

BIGBOB2 is right-on with his suggestion.  Halogens actually produce more heat than the standard bulbs do.

It has been pushed about 6mo.  Also, the manufactures are getting around it by producing 95watt and 97watt bulbs.

That is good to know about the Halogens.. I will have to pick some up

I use 200 watt bulbs with a 1000 watt slider to control the temp. I have been told the 200s are not going away. Good info though on the new 95 watts and on the halogens.

I thought they could still be marketed as "utility" bulbs with clear glass for things like our hot boxes.  I need to read the bill again.

There will probably always be alternative bulbs to use for a hot box. There have been some good suggestions already and maybe cheaper than 4 for a dollar.
