HI yall,
I was asked to show how I do my feather spicing. As I love to share things I am putting it together starting today. I'd really like for others to be able to do it along with the tutorial, so in that spirit here is a list of things you need to get together before we start. You'll need a scrap piece of 2x4. Mine is 16 1/2 " long, but so long as it's over 8" it should work.
ok..
2x4
xacto knife or similar
knife sharpener
feathers of desired colors
fletch tape
ruler
dremel with sander or emry file
pen
*forgot: feathers need be full length uncut, and you'll need a feather chopper.
In this splice along we will be making 4 different types of spliced feathers.
we'll start with the easiest and work up to the hardest.
end splice
double end splice
middle splice
tripple middle splice.
As I don't want this to be a simple repeat of the very good "splong" that can be found in the how to forums, I am going to go into very fine detail about how I do it. I will be using both pictures and drawings to try and explain what it is I do, but in the end to really understand you have to do it yourself and see.
I think we'll start end of next week some time.

There's a close up of Derek's splices on a few of his arrow threads and they really are well done. Ready to see how he goes about getting those looking so nice.
