Title: Bow finally set up
Post by: Oliverstacy on February 21, 2008, 01:50:00 PM
Well after getting my new string in the mail today, I got it all set up (thanks Golden Hawk the strings are awesome!!!).  Yellow and brown go nicely with the bacote and Birds-eye.  What do you thing?

Started playing around with it this afternoon but my fingers and toes were getting cold, it's time to warm up.  Going to play around a bunch in the near future but had let my fingers thaw out some.

Noticed with my Beman MFX's it was shooting nock high and left some so I believe I'm going to ad 20 more grains and raise my nock some...is this correct?

Thanks,

Josh

Nock left on a right hand bow would indicate weak spine and a need to lower point weight or shorten the shaft or lower brace.A too stiff arrow can also act weak if it is hitting the riser.Probably need to lower the nock unless it is too low and making the shaft hit the riser.

Personally I don't adjust anything with a new string untill I've shot it a couple hundred times and it has settled in.

BTW nice bow!

The string is settling some...it dropped in brace about 1/2"...I did the twist and then lowered the nock about 1/8th or so.  I did switch from 125 gr points to 145 gr and after I lowered the nock it was zipping them in there.

Too cold to really play around with, but it is already shooting much better.  Some erratic arrows earlier may be my form since I haven't shot much over the last 2 months.  But I did notice at the end it was grouping well and they were center both up and down and left and right, you could see the difference.

Come on spring weather...turkey season is just over two months away.  If it likes the 145 grain points I'm going to get some Woodsman's and have a blast.

Bow is a Kota Kill-um and the quiver is a Kanati 4 arrow that I picked it up at the Kalamazoo show in Jan.
