Title: osage bow
Post by: pipedream on August 01, 2011, 02:37:00 PM
I am building a hickory backed osage board bow. 66" NTN x 1 1/2" wide fading to 1/2" tips. Should I go with a flat bow design or a rounded belly? This is not bending thru the handle.

It's a personally preference really. Either one will work fine for Osage. I like a slight radius to the belly myself.......Art

Pipe, I'm doing the samething myself. I stick with flat a belly. Mainly 'cause I don't have one for my self! LOL!
But it seems easier to control the plane of a flat belly.

I prefer a slightly radiused belly on any osage bow.

With a 1 1/2" width you are going to end up flat belly and pretty thin limbs when you get to your poundage. If you wand a slightly radiused belly I would go with 1 1/4" wide limbs.
