I was wondering how much of an island of wood do you leave standing doing a glue on handle. 1/8, 1/4? I want to economize and rip the thickness of some boards but have enough to glue on handles without it popping off and without a powerlam. I have some length to play with and may be able to tiller the bend further from the fade also.
Thanks in advance,
Jeff

I say start with no less than a 5/8" thick board and taper your fades from there.

I agree with Perlie. No need to put a bunch of work into a bow to fight with keeping the handle riser on. At 5/8" your handle area will be well above the plane of the working limb making the handle area unbending thus keeping the riser attached.
