This is my favorite piece of vine maple that I brought back from vacation. It sure looked smooth until I peeled off the green bark and saw all the lumps and bumps. :)
How well does vine maple hold up in very dry climates?

I think your staves came from the same general area. This one has a big knot(thus the name "knothead")in the middle, it stands about 1" tall. I can always store it in the basement where the humidity is higher, with my yew bows.
Sorry guys, if I send out any more trees the mail ladies at the post office are going to beat me with a stick. Something about being too heavy.
