Title: Need red feather dye?
Post by: TSHOOTER on February 18, 2008, 10:51:00 PM
Anyone know where I can get GN red feather dye?  KK & 3R are out of red.  Anyone here sell it?  Any other ideas on dyeing turkey feathers red?

Thanks

Cherry Kool-Aid. It's easy to dye feathers with Kool-Aid and in fact the red seems to do the best in my experience. Also, you could dye 50 feathers for less than $1.00

Yeah, any cake food coloring works too. I've been using it for a couple of years. Just mix it in a pan of hot water, add a cup of vinegar and pop the feathers in. When you have them at the shade you want, pull them out, run them under cold water and then lay them on kitchen towels to dry out.

Rit fabric dye also works well.  Scarlet yields a nice deep red.

Thanks folks.  I think I'll try the fabric dye.

Larry Maggard (Grey Ghost) and Mike Yancy (Pine Hollow) sell some dyes that work great!

Maybe it's just my demented off-season winter blues, but I was really hoping for a trophy pic here featuring a well colored arrow, if you catch my drift!
