Title: Old Master Crafters glue-up?
Post by: psmcgrew on February 18, 2008, 10:13:00 PM
Has anyone tried one of these?  I would like to try one out and looking for input.  I don't have any experience in building bows and thought this would be a good first project.  They come with blueprints and instructions.  Is this a good way to go for a newbie?

If you want success with the project and a great shooting bow, I suggest you look at the Dryad bow blank. They are a sponsor here.

I am awaiting my Dryad blank. (Dang sis-in-law is not coming crost the border for another week!)

This one will be given to my brother.

Still would like to hear about the Old Master Crafters glue ups, though.

Anybody finished one of these off?

Be assured, the glued up bows from Old Master Crafters are as good as any on the market. John has been at this all his life, he took the business over from his father when he retired. They have a solid reputation.

Bob,

Have you finished one up, or do you have pictures of any?

The brochure they send out looks good, just haven't seen pic's of any of these, so far.

As OMC supplies many bowyers with their lam's, I am sure that their workmanship is of high quality.

I am interested in one, as I have built one blank, from 7 Lakes Longbows for one of my brothers, I am awaiting a Dryad blank, which will go to my other brother, and this leaves my sis-in-law in need of a bow.

May as well try out Old Master Crafters, just cause I haven't done one of those, yet!   :)

My friend just finished this one from the Old Master Crafter glue up. It turned out at 60#.

Here is the finished bow. He says it seems very fast and a good design.

I looked them over at Kalamazoo, and they looked very nice.  Clear glass,  nice pretty lams underneath. Not sure what the cores were.

Paul, especially if this is your first attempt at building a bow, I would look hard at the Dryad blank. It has tapered limbs, tiller is already set and it is at your weight. It also has overlays applied. A good one to start out with IMO.

both are good I have used the old master crafter glueups and the dryad windwalker glue up. The only difference is one is all wood and the other is a glass bow. Finishing out a bow blank is a good way to get into bow building.

We offer both the BBO and a glass blank now.
