Just scored a ton (literally) of elm!
At least one very cool character stave in the bunch.
Still needs splitting:

Think it'll fly?

Cool. It could do it.
Now that is cool, great looking.
Nice haul!
Hey, a Texas peep sight! Put cross hairs in it.
How long is that stave? That looks like it could be a center shot bow. Stick a whisker biscuit in the hole and your set.
cool stave there
Funny, I'm working a hickory that looks almost the same. I'll post a pic here later if you don't mind?
Nice find. Is that slippery elm or american?
Nice buch of staves can't wait to see what you make out of them

Thought about it! The hole is too small (3/4") for that and it would make for a 54" bow. I think we'll just have to go for that Texas peep sight!
I plan to have a bow making party with my students from youth group with all these staves. I made a bunch of board bows and took the students up to the Colorado Traditional Archer's High Country Shoot a couple of years ago and had a blast! Now some of them want to make their own equipment.

Too bad that hole isn't closer to the center, you could make the worlds first thumb hole stock riser elm bow. :goldtooth:
Enjoy your bow making bash, I bet it will be fun!

Elm's kind of a weed out here. I answered a craigslist ad for free cut it yourself firewood, mostly elm. I didn't get a tenth of what he has to cut there and he said I can come back whenever I want to get more.

I have no idea. How would I tell? And is one better than another?
