Title: Hogs around Savannah,GA
Post by: Billy on February 16, 2008, 06:06:00 PM
I know Ft.Stewart is right there and there are lotsa hogs in the surrounding areas, but....
There are 3 or 4 of us who drive for the same company that shoot Trad. None of us have any hog experience.
If, we could get to the company yard in Pooler for a weekend, is there someone around there that would be willing to show us a bit of the ropes?
We've all got hunting experience, just not hogs or that area.
Any thoughts?

Gonna be a few of us at Ft Stewart this weekend.  When are you going to be this neck of the woods?

it varies when i get there...i'm in wyoming, waiting for oversize permits to get this load to wv...
would be a good thing if we could pick a date a month or so out and give the company a chance to get the freight lined up.
Thanks for the thought, maybe next time..

All along the Savannah River is full of hogs. Access would be your only problem. I believe unless you hunt private property hogs are out of season in WMAs  and in the Sav'h Wildlife Refuge.

the annual permit at Fort Stewart is, or was, 40 bucks and unless its changed its year round for pigs, except during turkey season which runs like 3/20 to 5/15.

You have to have proof of a hunting safety certificate regardless of age, and then you have to either call in or go physically to Pass & Permit office on base to obtain a day pass to a specific area once you have your annual permit.

Hogs are pretty much all over the base, and its in excess of 225,000 acres I believe...but you are right...it would be a lot easier if you hooked up with someone that has experience there.

All the "getting ready" stuff can be done by mail/phone/computer in advance...and there are some fellows who go during the week as well as weekends so you might try posting on the Georgia forum as well here to enlist assistance.
