Hello bowyers bench!
I have watched and read this forum for quite sometime trying to figure map out the best plan for building my first bow. There are several threads for build alongs but the only one that was as thorough as I needed (being a rookie) is 4est Trekkers. My only problem is this is not really the type of bow I want to make. I'm looking for a long and lean with a bit of R/D to her. Anyhow I feel doing a bit alongside a bowyer would be best for me. If there are any bowyers nears me looking for a bit of help or even just open to teaching I would really appreciate it!

NYArrow,
Having tried twice only to have both staves not work. If I were in the states I would us 4est build alone just to get some knocked out. The would be great gift for the kid you know. It is all about baby steps and expecting the worst and hoping for the best. I had fun on both attempts the first was hickory stave which is supposed to be more forgiving that most and the second was just a test to see if I could make a bow out of a wood here.
Go to the search and pic the bench, how to and build along and Powwow separate. You will find all kinds o f bows built under each. Make a note of the title and page so you can find info and who said it so you can PM them. Then you take all that info and try to make it work and if not you try try try again.
Good luck,
Kelly

Dustin.
Hornell is out in the middle there, isn't it. I'm up in th eAdirondacks and not much of a bowyer yet so I'm not a lot of help. I do know there are a few in Rochester and Syracuse areas also some good ones in Albany. No-Sage does a wonderful bamboo backed Osage bow and he is in Albany area. Hopefully someone closer will chime in. Don't worry about needing someone looking over your shoulder. Read every post you can on here and ask lots of questions. Check out Sam Harpers "poorfolksbows" web site and others. George Tsoukalis (sp) also has a great site and is on here a lot giving great advice. Dive in and have fun.

Razorback,
I'm actually within 1hr of Rochester. Who do you know in that area? Thanks for the help!

There is one guy I know in Victor. I got his bow in the bow swap last year. Can't locate his info at the moment but will try to find it for you. I know I have seen others from that area also. Try posting in the PowWow section as well. You will get a broader response and someone there may have more information for you. There should be clubs and such in the area that could help you out.
