We went for a "stroll" this morning and look what we found:

Unfortunately, this is the best picture I was able to get while it was treed. It was one of those days where I was wishing I had some snowshoes. Three of us took turns busting a trail through three feet deep snow.
Ya, Curt and Tracy it was in the same drainage as last year.
What can you say to that?

awesome picture
Did it come down with a bowl of warm milk? :)
Very cool!
Gotta like it!!
here kitty , kitty.... :wavey:
That cool.
And is it still alive Walt? If not, let's see the pic's
:bigsmyl:
Dang, that's a big kitty cat! I wonder if you called the fire dept. if they would get him out of the tree for ya??? :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
Looks like the kitty is hungry!
Wish I could see something like that on a "stroll" around here. It's a lucky man that lives in that country.
Al, we didn't use any milk, ah hum...let's just say a more "persuasive" method was used.
Killinstuff, it is not still alive but those pictures will not be posted here.
Ron, what are you doing on the internet? I figured you would either be on your way to the Sweat or getting ready for it.
Dave, not much luck involved, I decided this is where I wanted to live twenty years ago and took a 60% reduction in wages to make it happen. Luckily, my girlfriend at the time insisted we get married before she would move up north with me; Best thing that ever happened to me.
Awsome Walt :scared: :notworthy: :notworthy:
Tracy
Walt, glad to see you're doin well!! You must be made of iron to hike thru 3' of snow!! :notworthy:
Thanks for posting that great picture Walt. My dog just loves kitties...thinks they taste like chicken. :biglaugh:

Kenny,
We keep the main forest service trail fairly well packed hiking it several times each week, but as soon as you leave it the snow is waist deep. I was the old fat man in the group but they still made me take my turn at breaking trail, luckily we traded lead positions about every hundred yards. Luckily we only had about half a mile to go after we released the dogs but of course that was up a steep hill.
Walt, hats off to you for not being scared to live where you want. I too live in a place that offers less in some aspects but more in others.
What is it about mountain lions?
Lungs burning as you trudge through deep snow, to find an animal that few people ever see.
Of all the species not found in my backyard, for some reason, a mountain lion captures my imagination the most.
Morning stroll indeed.
That's awesome Walt!!! I'd sure love to get back to that drainage someday.
what kind of hounds do you run? my dad and i used to breed/field trial Blue ticks and it was a blast. my pop actually sold a few out of a litter to a cat runner in idaho.....sweet pics! now we run beagels.
Great pic!
Great pic, Walt! One of these days, I hope to make it out there to visit, hopefully during season!!
Nice-one Walt! Beautiful!
Nice photo! Looks like you sure made a wise decision or two about 20 years ago, wish I had done the same. No way I'm gonna drive by your house again without stopping in for a visit.
I do not own hounds but hunt with a friend who does, and can use to them anytime I need. Here is a picture of five of the six hounds we used yesterday with a mid-sized male kitty taken last December by my friend Lenny with his Robertson longbow:

From left to right: Sadie, Lenny, Baxter, Spike, John (the houndsmen, I have only been running hounds for three years and consider myself a rookie), Bart, and Scar.
Curt, Tracy, and Jeff, I hope you make back to Montana soon and am looking forward to meeting all of you when you do. Oh ya, March 15 is the deadline for non resident applications.
Border Bob, you know you are always welcome at my place.
Randy, what have you been doing with yourself? Have you been hiding in the basement building bows again? I went bowhunting for pheasants with Bret and Jeff today and we were talking about you and your bows.
Cool stuff Walt! Thanks for sharing this with us! I've heard Lion hunting can be some of the most exhausting hunting out there running up and down the mountains. Sure would like to try that one day. God bless, Matt
You nailed it Walt. If I havent been with the family I've been puttering around in my little shop trying to get better at bows. 2 steps forward-one step back (when you lose...dont lose the lesson right). I'm jealous you went on the pheasant trip...I was at work, would have liked to been able to go. How did you guys do? I've got 2 more bows that have to be built and then my wife is having number 2 child in early April. I should be able to play a bit for Turkey and definitely spring Bear. Cabin fever is starting but just barely so far. Take Care Bud, Randy.
Of all the animals that I want to hunt, the mountain lion is at the top of the list. Just something about them. The country they live in , there elusiveness. Plus, the sounds of those dogs on the trail is the sweetest music. While i have never hunted lions, I raised blueticks for years and hunted coonsfor a long time. Would love to hear those hounds again.

Great stuff, Walt! Thanks for posting.
What a pic! Thanks!
That's really cool!
Beautiful!
