Ok, after the summer break it's time to get back in the shop and start a new one. It's going to be a 64" longbow with a mild d/r-profile. I'm going to use cocobolo and hard maple for the limbs and cocobolo and karelian birch for the riser.
Here are the lams and the riser block I got from Kenny, they are awesome as usual...

Hope that I can sand the riser this weekend.

Always good to see your work. That riser is looking good and should go well with the lams you got.
Awesome looking wood. Can't wait to see more on this.
That birch is pretty! I'm looking forward to seeing this buildalong.
More pictures!!! This is going too slow. You'd think it was hunting season or something... :smileystooges:
Hey John, I would like to go on faster myself, but there are some things in life like family, work, social life that keep you from doing what's important ;-) And BTW what are all these nice bows for if you don't use them from time to time.

Andy
Haha...too true!
Spent some time in the shop today. First I sanded the riser until the fade outs were perfect...
Then I spliced the lams for the back of the bow together and prepared the glass and the lams for glue up...
And finally I glued the bow up. The Cocobolo lams look absolutely awesome. Thanks again Kenny for those fantastic wood you sent me !

That is some very nice looking wood. I'm excited to see this one come to life.
Swissbow, Looks like you will have a winner. Knifemaker
Yesterday evening Phil, Steph and myself met to work on our bows. This is how far we have been so far with our work.
We started with marking the centerline of the bow and drawing the shape of the limbs...
After that task is accomplished it's time to cut out bow after bow...
Phil is inspecting the limbs...
After a bit of sanding it's time to string her for the first time and to check if the draw weight is going to be correct...
The draw weight is still a few pounds to high but that's ok. I will loose them with the fine tuning and final sanding of the limbs, so that it will end up pretty much spot on. The limbs need to bend a bit more towards the end of the limbs. So i will narrow the tips a little bit until i'm happy with it.

Its always nice to see another fellow from the cheeseland building bows. Nice looking bows and good luck.
Thanks
Ok, I found some time to continue with the bow. Glued on the tips and the overlay. They are made of white phenol and a piece of cocobolo.
Before glueing them on I rough the surface with sanding paper and clean it with acetone.
First I glue on the phenol stripes and after that the cocobolo. I use super glue to glue them on, so I have to wait about a minute and can glue on the cocobolo right after that.
With the overlay it's exactly the same procedure.
I hope that I can shape the tips and the overlays tomorrow and then it's time to shoot her for the first time... :-)

Andy
Lookin good Andy!! Coldweather outdoor bowmakin! I love it!!
Finished the overlay and the tips today. Still a lot of sanding to do but it's starting to looking good.

The overlay at the back of the grip
(http://i861.photobucket.com/albums/ab173/07Hawaii/longbow%20for%20Iris/IMG_0385.jpg)
The tips are made of white phenol and a bit of cocobolo
Tomorrow it's time for some shooting and check how she's performing.

Andy
That looks great! Nice wood choices.
Your bows are looking better than the last. keep em coming... :)
Shoot her the first time today and I'm very pleased with the way she spits out the arrows. Took some pictures with the knife of the future owner...
Still some adjustments to make at the riser and the arrow window, but we're very close to the final bow.

Andy
Very nice! The combo looks great.
Wow. Very well done. Keep it up!
great looking combo!
awesome work, beauties, love the wood combos. and the knife is nice. i will pm you my address if the new owner doesn't like it.
Thanks guys for the kind words.
@Kenny: Fortunately it was not that cold and Phil had prepared some frost protection stuff ( hot tea with rum... ).
@Rich: Sorry but I had the impression that she will not give it away anymore. She shot some arrows and she looked very happy...

Very nice work....all these builds are getting me pumped to start trying my own!
Started applying the first coats of finish. First I sealed the cocobolo riser with epoxy that I thinned with acetone. After sanding with 240 grit sand paper I applied the first coat of finish.
The color of the cocobolo got a bit darker so now it's from red to almost black. I love it...

Superb work. She's a beauty.
Nice work!! Good looking overlays. the whole bow is good looking!! I wish I could still use cocobolo. It eats me up but it's my favorite wood.
