can i make a riser out of a solid piece of material, and if so what kind of wood can i use,i have access to a lot of native lumber from a custom furniture shop..cherry,hickory,oak,maple,walnut..ect,i am limited on funds...but had my favorite bowfishing blow and company wont replace riser so i have the limbs and need to make a riser cause im not giving them another penny
I believe all of those woods would work for a riser, but I laminate all my risers. I personally do not build solid risers, I am currently working on a walnut riser and it has 9 pieces of glass and wood accent strips just to add strenth.
if it were me id use a combination of any of those woods laminated to give it some character. wouldnt take much work and could turn out great. i think the hardest part for me would be making sure the inserts were drilled straight.lol
Here is curly walnut and osage.

I just rough finished a red oak riser. I laminated 3 pieces of red oak and cut it out with a bandsaw. Looks pretty good but the holes for the inserts aren't straight. Use a drill press if possible.

A solid wood riser will work, However i like a laminated riser. If you choose a solid wood be sure it is well dryed...the woods you mentioned will work. I really like osage :coffee:
