I recently bought a bighorn longbow used. The owner wasnt sure about a few things, I figured you guys would know. it has horn overlays on the limb tips, so is it FF compatable? and does anyone know a approx. brace heigth? its a 66 in bow and I do not know the date it was built, but it has elm overlays and clear glass if that tells anything... any info is appreciated Dave
Dave, I run my 66" Ramhunter approx. 7 1/4" to the grip. I have sheephorn limbtips and use Dynaflite 97 String on it. Bighorn used to use a phenolic wedge in their limbtip calling it 'bombproof and ff compatible. But the horn always seem to hold up. I'd try the brace height from 6 3/4" to 7 1/2". Very smooth shooting longbow. Good luck............Shick
Dave, my old Bighorn was made in the early '90's and it was ff compatible. It too, had the sheephorn tips. I shot it with a brace height of about 7.25". Good find! Not super quick, but very quiet and a stable shooter. Let me/us know how you like it. Mike
Recommended brace is 7 1/4 or a bit over. I run mine at 7 3/8. The year should be in the serial number on the bow. They can take FF but mine is so quiet with B-50 I'd never change it.
Thanks alot guys, I havent rec it yet but am looking forward to tinkering with it..I have always been a fan of the early bighorn bows.. Mike I sent ya a pm, followed with a email.... Dave
I have a couple of older ones both 66 inch I shoot 6 3/4 and both are OK for FF strings.
Take care
