I just got back from Aiken, SC where my wife spends the cold months of winter with her horses (her passion). On Saturday I planted a tree & grass seed down there...then came home to shoveling snow & ice :(
Looks like we will be buying some horse property soon in Aiken. Now I'm trying to figure out who's in that area. Already talked to Terry, JC, and Ray Hammond this morning. If I'm going to be spending more time in the Aiken, it has to be my Southern Hunting Base (my passion)! Doc
i'm about 45 minutes to an hour away
b-dog
Jeff, Maybe we can get you across the line to some of the TBG events. I use to live in Augusta, GA, about 25 minutes from Aiken. Aiken is a very pretty place. Try Steve Sheetz (SOS) or Hal Rowland (Hogtamer) on here, they are both in the Augusta Area. Hal is in charge of a group called the Appling Archers which is having a shoot on 5/29/08-6/1/08 at Clark Hill itwill be close to you if you are down then. You already know how good the hog hunting is around the river there. Hope to get to share a camp with you one day.
Home of the NWTF Headquarters.Be worth your time to take a tour.
I'm about 2 hours away BTW,down in the lowcountry.Welcome to SC,nice to have more trad guys, even if it's only part time........
Now you'll have to look into the SCBA and PAF,our state archery groups. We can definately use more support.
Jeff, I am about an hour away too. . let's go chase hogs.
I'm in Summerville, about 2.5 hours away.
Guys this is so cool...might just need to completely retire :) Thanks for the response!
Good for you bud
That would be cool Jeff, I could come visit, play some golf and hunt!!! :bigsmyl:
David
Doc, you're gonna love it down there. I use to live in a little town called Williamston, near the Anderson/Greenville area. A lot of good hunting and fishing in the area.
David, You're welcome to come visit & hunt...but golf, well you are on your own there :)
Kenny, we might have to do some Denton style camping pending if I just get raw land
I could certainly deal with that!
I hickuped!!
Jeff, I just told Sky that you might be moving closer...at least part-time..great news! :bigsmyl:
I ain't never told nobody bout how bad you missed that first Javie you shot at at the TX Sweat 05 but it was purty bad. I think I heard him giggle as he ran away LOL However,I do see that yur knife makin' is comin' along. :D I seem to 'member that I had a purty good sneak goin' on that piglet when yur arra went bout six foot over his back and they all scattered. LOL! Dang game hogs!!
DW, Probably be back down the 3rd week in March. Maybe shoot a few arrows and get Skyler one of his St Judes projects.
Slow, Good to see you here! But I really didn't miss him, I saw how long it was taken you to get into position and thought I might just push him to ya ;)
Jeff, when you can, let me know some dates.....Got something cooking on the Ocmulgee river and it involves some hogs :bigsmyl: Talk to you soon, Don and Skyler
Dang, I need to move south too!!
Curt, all you need to do is "show up"....I'll talk to you in a few days...cool pics of you and your son. Sky's got some more pic's to send you from this week-end..... :goldtooth:
Doc I'm only bout 26 Hrs. west. I could make coffee with ya now and then...LOL
Doc, I'm in Augusta - probably the closest of most folks. Very active in Trad Bowhunter's of Georgia. Let me know when you are coming down! Steve
Steve, I sure will. I already promised Matt & Joel a knife for the Georgia Bowhunters Banquet...little did I realize at the time that I'd be spending more time in your area. I'm pretty excited about it. Better than that I'm getting plenty of points from my wife since Aiken is her dream equine area ;)
Doc, I'm over here in the Columbia area, about an hour away...give me a hollar when your in the area. I hear that they are giving that old grazing land away around Aiken.
Jeff will be moving closer?....cool!
Don....hogs on the Ocmulgee???
Whatchatalkinbought?
Jeff, I'm in the upstate area, near Greenville. I do get down to Aiken with my job from time to time. Maybe we all could get together.
Take care,
David
jeff/sc, I need to find out where you get your real estate info :)
Tippit, if you find out they are giving away land in Aiken, get double and I'll split it with you :D If you come down after 3/22, plan on swinging by the house and we'll see if any of the gobblers on my place will cooperate :readit:
Terry, hogs on ocmulgee?ssssshhhhh! Call Don...we's planin a lil get together late march. Hopefully will have Chase's bow by then and I can put him on a hog.
I haven't been there yet but If it's 1/10 as good as I hear,,,,,We gonna have fun..JC and I might slide down that way on a recon trip in a week or so..we won't shoot anything unless we see it...You know, just a scouting trip for Tippet, Chase and Sky :bigsmyl:
well, all the land I find over there leases for 30 bucks an acre...so I don't think they're selling it for nothing!
Jeff, I will find you a place to hunt...just hang in there. I'm working on a place for about 15 guys.
I'm just excited about so many guys down there Hunting. Around Boston, people hardly know the H word
After 30 some years, I never did pick up a Boston accent. Now I'm gonna have to start all over. Guess my mid-west accent fits in any where though...Doc
Doc, just PM me on where the free land is when you find it and I'll lock it up! Look forward to meeting you. Steve
My wife would love to move closer to the ocean. The SC Piedmont area is close to the ocean ain't it? :bigsmyl:
Alot closer than you are now....... :goldtooth:
Aiken's about 4 hours to Myrtle Beach and 2 1/2 to Hilton Head or Edisto.
Looks like I'll be bringing my lobster boat down to see what the Southern Atlantic has to offer this cold water flyfisherman  Doc
Doc,
The wife and I are fly fishing addicts. We make pretty regular trips to SMNP and on into Eastern Tenn to fish the Wautauga and Holston, plus a ton of small streams/creeks that offer some pretty darn good trout fishing in the same area. You'll actually be closer to the Smoky's than we are,and our drive is just over 4 hours.
There's also some good fly fishing above Clemson in Northern SC/Ga......the Chattooga river for one.
Flyfishing for redfish is pretty good here. I can help you get on'em if you get a boat down here. You could pair it up with some sea island archery only wma's.
Varmint, I think I'd rather meet your wife now instead of you. :saywhat:
Welcome, Doc.
One tidbit to help with the move to SC. You can say anything about anybody as long as it is followed by "bless his/her heart". example, She is fat as a hog and as ugly too, bless her heart.
Makes it OK.....Honest
I am in Simpsonville Prob couple hours away.
Welcome again
Mike
You can also hunt all year, deer 4.5 months, turkeys 1.5 month and hogs all the rest of the time. Of course, like Ray pointed out, some folks are real proud of their hunting land. Guess you are also finding out the Aiken folks are also proud of their pasture land.
The Aiken folks are proud of their pasture land, but my wife has been coming down in the winters for the past 3-4 years. She has a ton of friends there and my daughter has done some equine work there too. I never really paid much attention to coming down as horses are OK but but not my passion. When I came to Ray's hunting area last year I started thinking how much I could make her Happy ;)
Maybe a little move South wouldn't hurt for me either. So it looks like Aiken will keep Molly busy...Bless her heart :D Doc
Doc, you catch on right quick
Doc, welcome to SC! Im over near Myrtle Beach. We kill a few deer and hogs over here on the coast. The pig population has exploded. We cant kill them fast enough.
This all sounds too good! I got a few bows, a few fly rods, a boat, and even a horse so I guess I could keep busy. Thanks to everyone for the warm introduction to SC...Doc
