guess kinda what i'm saying could i glue three boards together and make a bow and not have to put it in  a heat box or cover it with anything  other than a oil or finish .
sorry if it's a dumb question but have looked through 18 paqes and have not seen nuthing except covering with glass,

I have been trying to make something like what you are talking about but with a form and a hot box...  no success yet..
(just a few bruises and broken limbs)  check this out

you must have missed that one.. Nick (dutchwarbow) does what your talking about.  you should try to get a hold of him.

thanks russ but still not quite what i'm asking i thinking all wood like cherry and oak or walnut laminated with another lighter or darker wood just glued together for some contrast . but thats along the right idea .

Nick makes some fine bows that's for sure.
Ain't seen him on here for a while.
I'm interested in the tri lam myself but I need to get a few other projects done first.

where the boards are is vital,  like bamboo for a back and ipe for a belly,  some woods are very good compression horrible tensile(sp?)(pulling) stress and visa versa
there is alot of guys here who can help, running it past these guys in a post may save you a big pain...  I dont know a lot about it but i do know.  hickory and moso or tokin Bamboo are popular choices for wood backs.   ipe for bellies.  ipe is not hard to get just gota find a place that sells good decking boards.  that is its most common use around here.  also you gota be careful about too strong a back as it can crush the belly wood.  ask for a recipe on here and i am sure you will receive.  i can tell you 2 layer woven fiberglass back will crush a thin oak and maple belly.  (i broke one just like that after drawing it to 36", i was figuring out where it would break...)

Maybe young Nick got a new Girlfriend??? deer hunting season has kept me from wanting to build bows.. have you searched "tri lam bows"??..

have searched but seems everything i find has some sort of fiberglass in it and i want to stay from that if i can .
might throw up another post asking for a recipe and see what i can get  just  don't want to get to envolved with big money woods yet  kinda trying to stay cheap if i can .
thanks,
Scott

Check over at  primitive archer (http://primitivearcher.com) .  They don't do anything with glass and I know I have seen build alongs with lams.

check out some of my bows in the traditional crafts section of  www.ozbow.net, (http://www.ozbow.net,)  never has been glass on one of my bows and never will be.
