Hey all,
I have the oppertunity to pick up a Southern Draw Longbow by Jeff Carter. Its 64 inches long and 43#@28 inches. Can anyone tell me about this bowyer and these bows. I cant seem to find a website online or any articles about the bow. Does anyone own one? Do you like them? Do they have any detractions? Also, What are their value new?
Thanks for the info all,
Brian Gillispie
I shot one at ATAR, West Virginia last year. I thought they were pretty nice. The one I shot felt good in the hand, with pretty good speed, and... it stands out.
I think the bow I was shooting was about $465.00

I own a Southern Draw and enjoy shooting/hunting with it. Jeff is a real stand up guy and will stand behind his bows. He doesn't have a website and their aren't really well know yet, but the word is strating to spread. Not sure what you mean by detractions. I believe a new bow cost $475-ish.
How did you come across this bow? Just out of curiosity.
John at Sipsey River sells them he is a sponsor here and could probably tell you more when he gets back from a hunting trip.
I've shot with Jeff and he shoots his Southern Draw very well.
Hey Leftieshot,
One of my trad shooting friends saw that I was overbowed with my 53# super kodiak and let me try out this Southern Draw that he had in his storage unit. The bow is very nice. Fits the hand nice. The shallow shelf is opening my hand up to fletch cuts. Some mole skin can fix that. Where is Jeff Carter located? Can you give me his Contact Number? What I meant by detractions, I was wondering if this Very Wonderful bow had a reputation for doing anything unpleasant. Ya know, Delams exploding widdling on the carpet ect.
But more to the point I was wanting some info like Brace height recommendations Limb composition and probable riser wood ID
Thanks much

jeff lives down the road from us and goes to my grandparents church. he makes a great bow and he is located in athens, alabama. i dont think hes making the carbon limb bows anymore...but either way his bows are well built and beautiful. starting at $475
I own 2 of his bows,wouldnt mind having a 3rd. Great guy,honest person,builds a wonderful bow.
Jeff has stopped making the bows for now. he is very busy with his full time business. He may start up again later. We, Sipsey River, have been his only dealer. We have only one of his bows remaining in stock. They are some of the smoothest bows we have ever had.
Thanks Jeff,
I am having a Ball with my new (to me) Southern draw 64inch 43# @28. It is fast and seems to spit out any wooden arrow that I can find to feed it. I am finding it has a nice flat trajectory out to about 17 yards. Sweet shooter. One of the things I was wondering, Can you get replacement limbs? Was hoping for some shorter limbs for tree stand hunting in the fall. When you see Jeff Carter, Tell him his bow is fantastic and a work of engineering and art.
Thanks,
Brian Gillispie
My buddy has two of them.He is waiting on a set of 60" limbs now to use in his blind. They are very easy bows to shoot well.I watched a lot of people trying out the one John Dill had at ATAR.Just about everyone that picked it up shot it better than the bow they walked up with. :)
JEFF IS ONE OF THE BEST PEOPLE YOU CAN DEAL WITH.
I OWNED TWO S.D .THEY SHOOT JUST GREAT .NO STACK OR HAND SHOCK. ALSO JOHN AT SIPSEY RIVER IS ANOTHER VERY GOOD PERSON TO DEAL WITH -JUST BOUGHT A BOW FROM JOHN LAST WEEK .YOU CAN'T GO WRONG.
