I am looking into purchasing a new Recurve and was wondering if ya'll could give me some info on widows?
I know there are a ton of different models and what not. I read a bit about what each one is and for the most part its the size of the riser correct? As well as a few other things but thats the one thing that stuck out to me.
I'm just a hunter and I do 3D but I'm no olympic shooter LOL...I do gap though so sight frame is important to me.
So what should I be paying attention to here I'm trying to learn as much as I can about the bows.
I know my current bow is a bit rough on my shoulder but my brothers bob lee which the specs are almost the same is a DREAMA to shoot. How do these draw and shoot?
Its pretty much a toss up right now between Bob Lee and Black Widow.
ALSO anyone have any pics of some widows? Trying to see as many as I could as well as some of the X woods. Curious to see some good pics of tulip wood as well.

If ya like a larger sight window, go with the PMA series, if ya want the best performance go with the PTF series as it is their best performer and is the new PA both one pieces, smaller sight windows. Widows are nice bows, not the fastest or the quietest but sweet bows. The best thing about them is they hold their value better than any trad bow out there. The Lees are good shooters as well but they will not hold their value like a Widow. Go to the Widow website, ya can view it all even the forum, ya just cannot post. Shawn

These days there are a handful of really nice hunting bows available and Black Widow bows are right up near the top of the list. Although I have shot many different recurves and longbows over the years, I have owned Widows exclusively since the late '80s. Widows are very smooth to draw, very accurate and sufficiently fast shooting (175-190 fps are realistic expectations with heavy arrows). If you're a gap shooter, you may want to consider a Model MA. The MA style has a longer riser with a large sight window and this may lend itself more to a gap shooter than a model PA or PSA which have shorter risers and smaller sight windows. Ultimately, it's just a personal choice. No Widow model is any "better" than any other Widow model. In terms of durability, Widows are legendary. I'm fortunate to live where I hunt so I get out five or six times a week during the deer season, followed by three more months of busting brush chasing bunnies behind my Labs. Over the course of two decades I have used and abused my bows without so much as a single problem- ever. Other than periodically changing the string, I have a couple Widows that have literally remained strung for over 15 years.
Lastly, anyone who has ever dealt with the folks at Black Widow would tell you that they set the bar for customer service- period!. And in terms of resale value, twenty year old Widows are currently selling for what I paid for them new. They hold their value as well as any collectible firearm.

you can't really go wrong with either bows. They are both as good as it gets. That said I do love the widows and you should do the test drive

Widows are like Lay's Potato Chips....Its' hard to have just one. I like 'em all. They're just solid shootin', hard hittin', quality bows. You won't find better customer service.

I'll second the customer service comment from Labs... I don't even own a Widow, and those guys have always treated me like family. I have shot several different Widows, several times, and my humble opinion is that they are a fine bow! Good luck on your decision!
At BW, they have what they call a "test drive." They will send you a bow close to the specs you want, you pay for the bow, and when you send it back, they credit your account except for the shipping. They want you to get the bow that is best for you, and this is a great way to find out.
I just love the grips. I have a few. :)

I have had a Black Widow MAIII and now I have a SAIII. I shoot gap and realy havent noticed much difference. Do yourself a favor and try Black Widows test drive program. It could save you alot of money deciding in the longrun. I realy like the looks of the tulip wood they have.Thats probably what I would get if I were ordering a new one.
Deadbolt...If your not in a hurry for a new bow wait until April for the Whittingham traditional Shoot. Lots of nice bows both new and used to try.

MikeC I'm in no rush I just want to do my homework. I'll be going to the shoot that entire weekend and if i dont have a new bow by then I will for sure be trying alot out.
And I just read about that test drive thing I may start doing that and feel a few bows out.

i really love them widows in osage.
i was wondering if they could do something either knotted maple and osage or tulip wood and osage. for some reason those color combos sound sooo nice to me LOL.
can't wait to start the test drive!
