Well I was showing an Internation Counsellor at our summer camp my first self bow that I have finished and while stringing it, it broke about 7" short of the tip. :banghead: Was always a spot I was working on and since the tiller had gone bad after much shooting, didn't surprise me too much. Still sad to loose the first one. Will glue it up and hang it on the wall. Still got the board I made it from so will get started on another one once the summer slows down, also have o finish an Osage that I have going.
Good news is I picked up half a dozen Farrier's rasps, lightly used, from ourt camps farrier today.

I strung up my first one last night and was thinking of this post. I would like to keep it for a long time. Sorry to hear.

Don't sweat the small stuff, and remember, it's all small stuff!

Yep, its only a stick with a string. i learnt a lot making this bow and will use that information in making more bows. I was amazed it turned out so well for my first so it is all gravy. Good luck BigCountry. Even if it breaks you will have the lessons it teaches you for a lifetime.

Gator, If you know me from PA you sure know about my old 'Glass bow addiction.:=)

LOL. I've been on the Gang since it started. I've lost track of the # of bows/staves I've broken. Probably as many as I've made. Thankfully, only about 6 have gone at full draw. I I like to take those twisted ugly ducklings sitting in a corner and make them shoot. Jawge

I must say I've gotten a few pm's in the past about "If you ain't beakin' you ain't makin'!" But you'll get honesty from me. Beginners break bows. After 24 bows or so you get the hang of it. Set yourself up with a nice rope and pulley. That way if she breaks you'll be far away. :) Jawge

Thanks Jawge. I have the rope and pully and even use a stringer. This time I was rushing things and since I had just cleaned up the stringer wasn't in its usual place :smileystooges: So I rushed the stringing using floor and leg. Everything will teach us something LOL. At the speed I make bows I will will be long dead before I get the hang of it. And I'm only forty.

Actually I was about 40 when I started too, razorback. You can do it. Jawge
