ha, been pretty rough on the fingers, anybody got an idea as to which finger pad or other to buy??
A glove could be a safe bet, unexpensive and effecient

Buy a cordovan tab, Kustom king sells a nice one for $10. shawn
If you're shooting a fairly heavy bow, I'd recommend the Big Shot Glove by American Leathers. Pricey but worth it.
I'm with Shawn, a cordovan tab would be a good choice. I prefer the black widow.
well, found me an old deerskin glove, works pretty slick, but.... i still like to feel the string slide off of my fingers , i can make good shots with my eyes litteraly closed if i can feel and control everything i'm doing. i beleive the key to bow'ing is respitory control and yardage judgement, but i still have alot to learn thanks guys and i'll look into your suggestions
I shoot a 63# LB and 66# Recurve, the Super Glove works for me. Also, if you're going to a big shoot, several hundred targets over a weekend, I use medical tape on the finger tips when/if they get sore. Did Austin Traditional Championships, all four fifty target rounds in one day a couple years back. No sore fingers with the Super Glove.
Camoman, I shoot a 63# selfbow and I also like the feel of the string on my bare hand. However, my fingers become quite sore after only 30 arrows or so (and I hunt in the cold), so I use a deerskin shooting glove durring the spring, summer, and early fall. Hunting in the late fall and winter I have calfskin gloves that I wear on both hands. I think your deerskin glove is probably a good start.

for heavywieght bows; which is the best glove?
Do you like Ford or Chevy? I like the Super Glove, but there are as many lies and dislikes as belly buttons. If you can borrow a couple to try that would be best, the better ones are $25-30 each.
I tape my fingers with sports tape. Index middle ring. I use a Damascus glove. I also shoot fairly heavy bows. After a while the calluses will take hold and you will not have to use the tape anymore.
Over time I've had trouble with the end of my middle finger going numb for long periods of time(weeks) and my index finger getting very sore.I use a Martin glove and put the office rubber finger tip protectors in the index and middle finger holes, now I can shoot forever with no problems and get good releases as well. I use the American Leathers Schulz Shooting Glove at 3 Rivers. $36 but will last a long time and protect ya fingers. The best glove I've ever owned. Seems very thick at first, but breaks in very nicely.
Shoot through the pain develop calouses , bit hard to leave at home . regards Jacko
I developed callouses, then they even hurt.Felt I was gonna rip it off....
Switched from a damascus glove to the 3rivers duraglove...........no more pain whatsoever.
Like most of out tackle, there is no "best" or "right" kinda string fingers protection - everyone's gotta figure out what works best for them.
I could never get used to the constriction of any kinda glove and prefer the freedom of a tab. I make my tabs outta any kinda supple leather, mostly latigo, here's my tab template ...

... and one of my tabs ...

Just stick yer middle finger into the tab hole. :)
As the tab lays in the picture above you place your middle finger through the hole , pull it down onto the base of your finger , the slick side of the tab should cover your shooting fingers and the rough side should rest against your fingers .
I wasn't serious about the callouses bit either , never have managed to build enough to stop my fingers hurting after 3 or 4 dozen arrows from any weight Trad bow . I use the same design tab as pictured and cut it out of thin Kangaroo hide then inpregnate it with bee's wax -slick as and great in wet weather . regards Jacko
well hey that seems simple enough, thanks, i think i'll go with one of those instead of a glove,
Big Shot Glove...
Hey wudstix I like dodges! You make a great point,
"there are as many lies and dislikes as belly buttons".
Did you mean LIKES ? or was lies a fruedian slip? LOL. Either way it is right on the money.
A tab or a glove will help protect your fingers from nerve damage too. I shoot with a Martin deer skin glove.
When a good glove breaks in, you can feel the string. The tabs always felt too thick and I never used them enough to break one in.
Get an old, worn-in glove from a friend and try it.
