I'm finally heading out the door and into the jungle to go find some new bamboo. This will be Clump Bamboo that is grown up a tributary of the Mekong River. I plan to take some pictures for you guys and also show some primitive tackle being constructed as it cures and becomes workable. Look for pictures in about a week.

Sounds very exciting. looking forward to the pics. Good luck.

Very cool. Does this type of bamboo have the almost solid core? I have been messing with Tam Vong and tregai bamboo and really like it...

Got some good pictures, I just need to convert them and upload, will get that done in the next 24 hours.

Yeah lets see them! I'd like to see it in the wild as well as harvested.
You live in Thailand or just work there?

This time of the year is rainy season so the Bamboo is not great for harvesting. Needing a few staves to work on, I picked out a pretty straight piece and chopped it out of the Clump. Once it was down it was plain to see it had some ants in it but there were a few good staves in the bottom and they are split and curing right now.
I was pretty busy so its not that picture intensive but one can get the idea of what was going on. As the staves cure I will get you guys some more pictures and will try to answer any questions if possible.
While there I was looking for big pieces to harvest during the dry season and also set up a deal to get Bamboo Charcoal for my forge, overall it was a great trip.

The Bamboo closer to the ground is pretty solid. From my understanding it shoots up pretty fast and fills in over time. I have been growing bamboo this year so I'm learning more about it by doing that. What is amazing is how fast the stuff grows, it can really take off.
The staves from this last piece are the very dense/solid kind so will make one piece self bows, short and fat. Will get some pictures on it as they cure.
Feel free to post pictures of you're bamboo here on this thread. Were all trying to learn as much as we can.
