Many months ago I was given plans and a template by Kenny (thanks) to try out- I also won some lams from Jake (over&under). A couple of moves later I finally found time to set up a saw horse work bench and got started. This template worked well with a router to do the form. (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll259/truxturning/RD%20Longbow/RDLongbow019.jpg).I also had plans with specifications on riser length and stack thickness. (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll259/truxturning/RD%20Longbow/RDLongbow002.jpg).And the form was born. (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll259/truxturning/RD%20Longbow/RDLongbow003.jpg)

Glued up some zebra wood and leopard wood and into the f-150 oven. (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll259/truxturning/RD%20Longbow/RDLongbow007.jpg). Out of the oven and cleaned up a bit- (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll259/truxturning/RD%20Longbow/RDLongbow010.jpg).Dressed up- (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll259/truxturning/RD%20Longbow/RDLongbow013.jpg).Picked one and got it sanded for the glue up. (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll259/truxturning/RD%20Longbow/RDLongbow016.jpg)
-
I used maple, actionwood, and elm for the core and black and clear glass. Glue up went pretty well. (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll259/truxturning/RD%20Longbow/RDLongbow018.jpg). Out of the press and cleaned up- (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll259/truxturning/RD%20Longbow/RDLongbow023.jpg). Rechecked the center with a laser after rough shaping of the limbs. So far so good- I'll try and get more done this week- string nocks, tiller, etc. before I go fishing this weekend. Thanks again Kenny and Jake.
-
Very nice. Keep up the good work;)
-
Cool beans man! Can hardly wait for more!
-
Good deal!!! Looks real familar. Cant wait to see the riser after you cut out the window.

You're welcome Dave!!
Lookin great, let us know how she shoots for ya!!
-
Got the string nocks roughed in and strung up- the string tracks well and there isn't any limb twist to deal with. (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll259/truxturning/RD%20Longbow/RDLongbow030.jpg). The top limb bends 3/8" more than the bottom right off the bat. (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll259/truxturning/RD%20Longbow/RDLongbow028.jpg). Right now it feels like it is going to be less than 50#'s which I was going for-or I could just be stronger than I think. With out any work the limbs are bending pretty well. (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll259/truxturning/RD%20Longbow/RDLongbow036.jpg)

The tiller looks good.
-
Man I love that profile! I think it is about the best looking longbow form out there. Great job
-
Dave, if she comes in lite,2" off makes 5-6#s and doesn't hurt the profile a bit! I may like it even more......
-
Dave you can cut it all the way down to 60 inches on that exact form. I have the same exact form. 62 is real nice though. Looking really good.
Shawn
-
Are there plans for this pristine profile? or deminsions anywhere? I sure would like to try one as well!
-
looking good. keep us posted. I really like this profile as well. later down the road This is what i will be shootin for.
-
Brad- I got the plans and template from Kenny- so far one of the easiest bows I've put together-
Kenny- I left the wiggle room of cutting it down if it does come in too light- right now I think it will be fine at the 64"'s
I'm off fishing this weekend so I'll have to see if I can get it finished up next week. I still have the overlays to glue on, a little work on the bottom limb plus rounding them over, cutting the shelf, and then the finish- can't wait to see how it shoots.
-
2" off will be more like 10#. not tring to argue, just sharing my experiances.

-
64" down to 62" was 5-6# on the only one we piked from this form. Possibly because of the .003 total taper.May be different on the next one.......
-
Kenny I gained 6 lbs when I cut mine from 62 to 60 on this same exact form.
-
Hey all,
I don't want to hijack this thread, but I've been looking for form plans for a R/D bow.
Does anyone have the plans in electronic format that I could "poach" so I can try building one of these myself.
Thx.

Well it looks like I'll keep this one at 64"- I still haven't put it on a scale but I like the way it feels. I also have another riser glued up so I will adjust the poundage on the next one if need be. Got all the overlays glued on and hope to cut out the sight window tonight and start shaping.
-
OK- I got all the added overlays glued on. (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll259/truxturning/RD%20Longbow/RDLongbow041.jpg) (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll259/truxturning/RD%20Longbow/RDLongbow039.jpg) (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll259/truxturning/RD%20Longbow/RDLongbow043.jpg) (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll259/truxturning/RD%20Longbow/RDLongbow046.jpg)
-
I laid out the site window and cut it out- It will end up being cut to center with a radius.
(http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll259/truxturning/RD%20Longbow/RDLongbow047.jpg) (http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll259/truxturning/RD%20Longbow/RDLongbow049.jpg)
-
This is after a little shaping-still more to do but I should get enough done tonight to at least shoot a few test arrows before it gets dark.
-
I must say I like that riser, so far ;)
-
Thats looking more and more like a really fine shooter and looker. Keep it up.
Shawn
-
Lookin good Dave!! He must be still shootin,it's dark here........... :D
-
Kenny- I did get to shoot it some tonight. I still haven't scaled the bow yet but it will be around the mid 40#s and I was suprised at how it performed. It zipped the arrows in there and was quiet- this will be a good bow that I'll be able to shoot all day. There is still plenty of sanding to do and then put the finish on- the zebra and leopard woods do look good together.

really cool stuff!
respect!
-
Sweet!! What is your draw length in the pic? Looks optimum!!
Probably could get 3 more inches before 90 degrees on string/limb tho!!
-
cant wait for the finish on this one looks great so far
-
Kenny- I am drawing it 28"s in that picture- it looks like it will finish at 42#s. This is one of the easiest to shoot bows I have made. I'll start on the finish tonight and should be done in a couple of days and have some final pictures.
-
So I'm dangerously close to being done- just need to let the finish cure before I string it up and get the rest on it- here are some pictures with the finish on. It came out 42#@28" and 64".
