Title: Bamboo backed ipe stave

I recently bought an unfinished bamboo backed ipe blank from "Three Rivers". It needs tillering. My question is it's cross section is a D, with the flat part the back of the bow, when I tiller it,  do I maintain that cross section or will I flatten the belly some what and then round the edges??

is it a narrow profile stave, if so a painters combo scraper works real good. Scrape 20 times with the flat side and then equal amount with the half circle. you can clean up the flat with a file. Least thats how I do it

What are the dimensions of your stave?

Mantain the cross section and tiller with sandpaper and or a round scraper.

maintain the D go easy a 6" piece opf flat stock works good for checking flat spots keep us posted i'm think'n of getting one of those boo backed ipe staves thanks

You can make the bow either flat or round.  Ipe is great stuff.  BUT, I would go with how it is now, since the ipe will take it, and it'll be easier not to get lost.

  Sanding ipe can give some people respiratory problems (the lining of my nose practically fell out) so scrape if you can...
