Title: Adding weight?
Post by: Lt. Dan on June 26, 2009, 06:56:00 PM
I have a 50# Stick that I would like to get to 55# if possible.  How would you guys go about it?  Thanks.

I would cut 1" off each tip, and then re-profile the ends of the limbs.  Laminate on new tips and then check weight if you are a couple of pounds heavy, you could then trap the belly a little, or just round the limb edges.

Apex got it. Trim a little of the tips and go from there. 1" form each end will add around 8-10# in weight.

Question: how long is the bow right now and what is your draw length? You don't want the bow too short.

It's 62" and I draw 28".  Thanks for the advice.  I wouldn't have thought of that.

When you said "stick", I was assuming you were talking about a Martin "Stick", which is 68" long.  Are you talking about an R/D bow, and if so, which one?  If it's an R/D, you will lose some net reflex, and change more than weight by cutting the tips off.

Apex, it is a Martin Stick but the one I have is 62".  D-shape for sure.  I took a rat tail file and made grooves 3/4 of an inch down from the origianals.  I'm very pleased it's at 54-55 pounds now and shoots a little better.  Maybe it forced me to use better back tension, who knows.  I didn't cut the tips off just in case it didn't shoot well.

Thanks again.
