Title: dying snake skins?
Post by: BigJim on June 25, 2009, 09:53:00 PM
I am wondering what type of dye to use on snake skins. I have a customer that wants green snake on her bow. I have some dried natural rattler that I would probably use.
Also  anybody ever use python skin on bow limbs?
I have some beautiful tanned python but am thinking it may be a little on the thick side and might affect cast.

thanks, BigJim

What I do is dye the wood on the back of the bow before I put the skin on. Probably wouldn't show through a thick skin but does with thin ones like copperhead. I use stainable Elmer's wood glue for the skin, dries clear instead of yellow like Titebond
