Hey!
I've visited this place quite often, but I thought I'd sign up. I'm quite active in primitive bow forums, but my interest in glass bows and the amazing ones you guys make, made it pretty easy to convince myself to sign up ;)
About myself, I'm Nick, a 16 year old guy from the Netherlands, still in school but planning to join the dutch Marines after university. I've made exactly 30 bows so far, including many testbows, unfinished bows, 'unserious bows'. The latest bows are mostly laminates, both BBI's and BBM (massaranduba). I prefer the first combination, since I had a terrible compression crack on a 130# warbow.
the bows in these pics are warbows varying from 90-130#@32", and a 70#@29" pyramid.

You are a very talented young man. I would love to see what you could make using glass.
-
Very nice work. Great job on all the bows
-
Very nice bows!! You must be a pretty big guy, pulling those heavy weights.
-
Nice work Nick. You have great attention to detail and the bows look great! I really like your Hazel sapling bow.
-
Realy nice work.
-
Those are some great bows Nick! You certainly have talent at a young age, and I think that's awesome.
I have a 16 year old son named Nick! :)
-
thanks Guys!
colt,
I would love to see what I'd do with glass either ;) Haven't found a good supplier yet, though. Gotto do some research. However, I'm getting boo, ipé and maple(cores) for over 20 bows within a months :) I'll be pretty broke after, so the glass may take a while. But I'll certainly crank lots of bows out :)
mounter, I've been lifting weights for almost 2 years, but I don't think It was a major benefit, it's more about technique and specific muscletraining (just drawing heavy bows often :p )
thanks Marty! you're kidding me right? such a coincidence :p

No kidding Nick! He's a musician though, and has no interest in bows, or hunting.
-
I watched a video of nick shooting that is pretty cool.He does not look very big, but he works that heavy bow over without much stuggle. shoot, I should say NO struggle.
Some sweet looking bow Nick, keep at it.

Hey Nick,
Nice bows you made there. I joined some years ago and have posted several topics amongst some of my R/D bows.

PLEASE resize your pics to 640 pixels wide...they are WAY oversized at the moment.
Thanks!
-
I'm sorry Terry. I'll see what I can do with photobucket, otherwise I'll reduce them before uploading.
thank Two tracks! warbowarchery sure is something special :)
Arnold, I've seen a few of your bows, they're truly amazing!

Nice looking bows, Nick. I like all wood bows too. Planning to join the Marines? I worked with some really excellent units from there, very well trained. I did some insertion and extractions with 7th SBS while up in Norway. Lots of fun!
Good luck to you!
-
Again.. Nice bows Nick. Do you buy boo from Dick`s in Germany? Funny name..Lol
-
thanks tommy!
yeah, marines will be my choice. Or maybe Commando's (similar to the delta forces, I believe). sure looking forward to it ;)
thanks Moen! I bought the boo in a store in 'kesteren', as poles.

great looking bows, nick! I have a soft spot for old style war bows.
keep up the good work!
-
Nick, very nice work it is apparent that you have learned a great deal in short time. Good luck in the Marines after school. By the way, what are you using for arrows, length, wood, weight, fletch and such?

Hi Nick. Welcome. Those are mighty fine bow! Jawge
-
Very nice bows, Nick! Our Dutch ancestors survived using longbows, it's in your genes
Also, you're not giving up much going with the natural materials over 'glass, performance-wise.
-
Man those bows are sweet, if you sold them here in the states, I would buy one.
-
thanks for your kind replies guys!
Hud, I used scots pine dowels for the shafts. they started as 14mm, but I worked them down to 1/2" at tip to 3/8" at the rear. Using big fletches of 7 1/2" long, and 3/4" - 1" high (yeah, too high, but my shooting range is max. 240yards... like shooting at 160yards). They're 73grams, and I use some simple machine forged bodkins I bought in a dutch archery store. They're rough, simple, and ugly, but they fly great :) No nockinserts, not even a binding, usually just glue the parts together when I break a nock. Gotto make some better arrows soon!
falk,,, your reply dissapeared. but thanks for trying anyways :D I thought I had read it before... but it's gone now.
george... I see you on many forums! hehe. PP,PA, TG... :p
thanks for your kind reply tilbilly!
Toelke, I do want to sell them, can't find any buyers though. If you want to pay shipment, I'd love to make you one, won't be too pricy. PM me ;)

seriously, nice work. not many people can make bows, even fewer with warbows, and even fewer still at our age. keep it up man.
