Well, we're now six weeks into the new year. How is everyone doing with their exercise program and commitment to get healthy?
Maintaining the diet/eating better is going fine, but I have slacked off on the workouts a bit. Working some overtime and the bad weather has slowed things down, but that is really more of an excuse! Starting back on the bike and weights Monday. Good luck to everyone>>>------->
20 minutes on elliptical, 6 days/week...going to 25 minutes next week...
this is the first "organized" exercise I've done in 25 yrs; amazing how it helps everyday living...and this year's pheasant hunting promises to be more enjoyable....
elliptical for 30 min. then bike for another 30 min. the only about 20 min. of lifting weights 6 days a week I want to be in decent shape this year while I dream of getting the big one. :archer: :archer:
My fitness routine is still at a good pace, and my dietary changes have made me feel healthier, even if I'm not. I'm running 4 miles or so right now, 3x a week.
I set a goal to run a half-marathon in April. Setting a goal for running in a race always keeps me motivated. Hope to break my PR of 1:51.
Good luck everyone. Stay on track!
Brett
Lite beer no eating after 6 , this sucks.
Started off bad as I was sick most of the month of January and just did not have the energy to lift and walk after work.
Now I am doing 60-75 Minutes of brisk walking (4 mph average) after work 5 days a week. Will add weight lifting next week. Once the weather warms up I'll be extending my walking/running to 1.5 - 2 Hours and continue lifting. And throw in walking the 2D Archery walk around at the local range. Want to drop 30-40 lbs by the end of May.
yeppers, doing well-as good as i can do considering my injury. im in the gym 3-4days/week, run/walk every day.
Doing good. Started mine in early November. Ive lost 18lbs. I go in a 3 day cycle,
Day 1: Bowflex weight training and 30 min elliptical
Day 2: 60 min elliptical
Day 3: Rest
Eating a lot better than i have in years.
Fruit for snacks all day long, a low fat low cal lunch and sammon and veggies 3 nights a week chicken and veggies 2 nights a week, cut out all soda just water now and a lot of it.
My last colestrol reading was 96
Im going to work out and eat right for the rest of my life. I love the way i feel now. With the little weight ive lost, still have about 30lbs to go, and the added mussle i feel 5 years younger and just in the 3 months ive been doing it.
Really well! 4 weeks as a non-smoker now & going strong. I've put on weight, but I figure nobody ever died from being a little podgy
Congrats on quiting smoking. Probably the best thing you can do for yourself.
30-40 minutes per day on the elliptical. I weighed 218 on Jan 4. Weighed in at 206 this morning.
Doing well...
Working out 4 days a week.
Running 3 days per week.
Doing the elyptical 2-3 times a week.
I have dropped 14 pounds so far. I still have 40lbs to go.
Thanks for asking,
-Charlie
Doing pretty good...
Elliptical 3 days a week for 60 minutes. 1200 calories per workout
Stairmaster 3 days a week for 60 minutes. Just under 800 calories per workout.
Lost 18 pounds since mid December. Would like to lose another 50 pounds by July.
Figure I will need to change my routine by the end of the month so that I do not plateau.
Rob, congrats on quitting the smoking habit. That has to be one of the hardest vices to overcome.
Shawn
Congratulation on your success wtpops! Cholesterol level of 96.... That's great! :notworthy:
:clapper: Fantastic job everyone. I must say though, that I am not at all surprised. After all, as a group, who exhibits more dedication and discipline toward achieving a goal than a group of traditionalists?
Remember slow and steady wins the race and that typically, the faster weight comes off, the faster it goes back on.
:clapper:
thanks, coach....
Started mine in October. At 46 & 260# was way way to much. Growing up never ever ever heavy always in shape. Then comes marriage, thow in a couple boys and presto... I became fatso....
Lost 45 lbs and just starting running again. I feel like a 30 year old again. I can even catch my wife easier now...ooohhhh yyyyeeaaaaa
As most we take no time for ourselves. YOU HAVE TOO MAKE TIME FOR YOURSELF.
Bowflex Extreme II is incredible. 20 minutes 3 to 4 x a week.
Drop the soda, drink water, eat like a human being, eat 5x aday mixing a piece of fruit or granola bar in between the 3 main meals.
It's alot easier thank ya think.
JUST DO IT....
Good Luck to all.
Exercise  :scared:
Lost about ten pounds since Christmas. Running 15-20 miles a week. Gave up one of my major food groups (sugar). My knees are already feeling better. Like Labs4me said, slow and steady wins the race. If you fall off of the wagon one day, just climb right back on. Good luck everyone and keep up the good work.
God Bless.
Eating fairly healthy six days a week and working out just 30 minutes a day (only a 2% investment of your day), six days a week is enough to absolutely transform anyone's life for the better. Be sure to give yourself one full day to indulge- have your candy; eat a bar burger; eat some pizza; enjoy a couple hard earned beers (Hint: this can be any 24 hour period. It doesn't have to be Sunday, but rather, it could be from Saturday, 7:00p.m. to Sunday,7:00p.m.- any 24 hour period!) But the other six days- get back to the business of living healthy. Being healthy will have a dramatic and positive effect on every facet of your life. Whatever it is that you enjoy doing, being fit and more slim will help you do it better and more enjoyably.
There simply is no need to "diet" or to work out 1.5 to 2 hours a day. This is not a realistic or sustainable end goal. Follow the lead of Fatman and Kingstaken and by Memorial Day weekend or The 4th of July, you will be blown away by your progress.
I suck. So far I'm up to 10 minutes on the elliptical twice a day. I wobble when I walk now, permanently weak in the knees....
Rob, we can commiserate in Texas. Just over a year off the smokes for me now, still miss 'em, still the best thing I ever did...
Jeff,
I pm-ed Rob this morning to say congrats on giving up the cancer sticks.
Like many in their generation, both of my parents were smokers. I lost my mother to lung cancer a few years ago. Watched it eat her alive, organ by organ until she died in so much pain that we had to administer morphine intervenously until she took her last gasping breath. The worst experience and the greatest sadness of my life, bar none. My dad used to joke about his smoking habit- until he had a massive heart attack at age 52. Now he can barely walk to the mailbox and is mad at everybody but himself.
Congrats to you on your tremendous accomplishment of kicking the habit. Incidently, 10 minutes twice a day on the elliptical is twenty minutes more exercise than 90% of americans get in a given day. Give yourself some much deserved credit!
Look, if you increase the duration of your time on the elliptical by just 30 seconds per week, by the end of the year, you'll be exercising thirty minutes a day! Stick with it and share your success with us down the road!
Well I had the fairly reasonable goal of losing 20 pounds this year. I want to be in better shape for Spring Turkey season. My Dad put me to shame last time and he is 62 years old to my 37. (Don't get me wrong - 62 is not old but I had hoped to have a better showing.) So far I am down 8 lbs since January 16th. Like a lot of you - I cut out the sugar overkill, pop, and fast food and I try to get in 20-30 minutes a day of some type of excercise. Usually it's chasing my 5 & 7 year old up and down the stairs. Thanks for cheering us on Labs4Me and keeping us on track.
Rob - Good Job Outta you on quitting smoking! Lost my stepmom on Thanksgiving Day from Lung Cancer after a lifetime of smoking. Your adding time to do all the hunts you dream of.
Melissa first of all great website. Your shirts, hats and socks are top shelf.
Men do have it alil easier then women when trying loose the weight. Diets don't work
Your body knows what your doing more then we can even phatham. You diet and starve it it stores it. Small portions 5 to 6 x a day and the metabolism will kick in. It is a paim in the a$$, but needs to be done
Keep up the good work.
We have a new gym near my home. Signed the family up for a year membership. I've been working out evenings six days and rest one. Weight training, I alternate upper body one day and lower body the next for about 45 minutes. I do interval cardio for 10-15 minutes after weight training. I changed my diet about 7 months ago. So far I've lost about 23 pounds. The gym deal we started about 3 weeks ago. They have daycare so the whole family can go together. Hopefully my kids can use this to learn a healthy lifestyle, instead of having to get back into shape like I have to do. Great thread, Labs, another bit of motivation we can use on the road to healthier living!!

Kingstaken - thanks for the kind words.
It's great to hear words of encouragement from you guys. My husband is required to be supportive but hearing all of your kind words is much appreaciated.
"Yes, dear." "You look great!" "No, those coveralls don't make you look fat at all." "You're hotter than bacon grease." You, know, the usual. Ten more years of this and I'll have this down to a science. :help:

That there gentleman is why I married him. He sounds so sincere when he says it too!
Congrats to everyone,...Uh, where's Biggie??
You guys are doing great. I try to stay in shape and work out most of the time so the Elk hunt in the fall in the mountains doesn't kick my butt. This year has been a little different. I got some new parts 6 months ago. (The docs' replaced my right shoulder) It's been a challenge but I'll get back into about a 48 lb. bow by spring.
Keep up the good work. It makes it easier in the long run. Have a Great Spring
Just getting started back after a long battle(3 years this April)with lyme disease. I'm in Florida getting my house ready to sell. Before that, I was bowhiking in Montana 4-5 days a week and working out with weights 3 nights a week. I'm currently working on a treadmill or walking 45 minutes 5 days a week and doing some pushups, situps, etc. Should be back in Montana by the 20th. I'll be back at my bowhiking and weights. Got a date this fall with a blind/suicidal elk :>) Been eating healthy for years now.
A word of caution, watch the fish that you eat. I was grilling salmon and tuna 2-3 times a week for years trying to eat healthier and found out during the lyme battle that I had mercury poisoning. Dr's said that the fish I ate was a likely sourse of the stuff. I eat mostly organic farm raised tilapia now. Anyway, just a heads up.

Well gang I have joined the ranks of you cardiovascular warriors and made a change to my life style.
I went to the doctor for a physical and my blood work showed my cholesterol level was 225 and LDL was 130. I had a gut feeling that I was going to have problems in this area and sure enough I do. The doctor told me that he wants me to get my cholesterol level below 200 and LDL below 100 so that is my goal and I want to do it without pills. I feel that I am too young to be taking pills so this is a big motivator for me.
I am 42 years old 6' tall and weigh 185lbs. I have always considered the ideal weight for me to be 2lbs – 2.64lbs. per inch of height or, a range of 180 – 190 pounds. I have found that if I get above 190 I feel like a slug and my joints start to ache. The aching may have a lot to do with the fact that I have bird legs. :clapper:
I read this thread a few weeks back and though "man I should really be doing this also." So how is everyone else doing?
Still going...just got back from the gym...I'm starting to see some results, now.
