I just got some very nice clean straight grained mahogany and i was wondering if it is possible to make a bow from it or if anyone had made any bows with it. I'm looking for either 30# or 60#, which would be better for mahogany?

I made a kids bow out of Santos Mahogany, backed it with a paper bag...it worked. Most mahogany is brittle thought...so I would suggest shooting for the 30# bow and backing it with something. Good luck.

Thanks sounds good.

it is reported to be a brittle wood..or at least the stuff sold as boards tends to be.

yeah just found that out. So much for that bow, oh well, i still managed to salvage the handle for the next bow though. Plus i made the bow to short for what i wanted either way.
