Title: Short Osage bow
Post by: Dano on May 09, 2009, 07:17:00 PM
Just finished up this little bow. It is 54" ntn 50# @28. I had to use some scrap canebreak skins as overlays for the short copperheads, might have to call this one "scraps". I used some hi density foam to shape the handle, I don't know the jury is still out on that, it feels kinda funny in the hand.
Unbraced

Full draw, well 26" anyway.

Nice job Dano!!  :p   Maybe try shooting it with your wrist straighter. That helps me when shooting a short bow.

That tiller is spot on!  Just look at how the tips line up on the vertial siding embossment.  Perfect.  Beautiful bow, Dano.

Dano nice looking bow. It looks like you get to spend a lot of time building them, and no time mowing grass. Wish my yard looked like that instead of 6" grass. Lot of rain in oklahoma lately.

Looks great Dano...

You can sure get a lot of bow out of a short piece of osage.

Very nicely done!!

ranger, my guess is, he has set, just no string follow  :)

How much reflex did that one start out with Dano?  Awesome tillering job and I like the skins  :)

This stave had a inch or so of natural reflex. With my dry climate, and taking it very slow while tillering, these D bows come out pretty flat. Prolly wouldn't have any set if I had gotten the outer limbs to bend more, but I like em a little stiff out there.

Thanks guy's.

If all that extra wood you used is still too jarring in yer hand, Dano, you could try adding a soft bunny to further pad the handle.  :-)  Or maybe not.

Hope to see you soon, brother.

Hi ya Buz!! Are coming to Cloverdale? It will be good to see ya.

It's not the hand shock, it's just kinda squishy in the hand, I shoulda used stacked leather like I normally do.

Dano, is there a fast rule on how long these d-bows has to be for a certain draw?

Cool little bow.

Mark, I've never heard one, but if you take the rule for any bow and subtract the handle and fades you get a pretty good idea. Then you just gotta push your luck    :bigsmyl:

Hmm, I want to make one.  I would immagine a 60" would be safe for my 29" draw.  Got a stave around here somewhere.

60" would be a good start, these are like eating Lay's chips tho   ;)

I would hope to get to Cloverdale, but it looks like we're gonna launch one on the 11th, so that would be kinda like wishin' for bad luck.

Y'all go ahead and have fun without me though.  (sniff)
