Hey Guys,
I'm getting ready to build an Ipe prototype bow. I was wondering for you guys that use Ipe how thick your belly is lets say for a 50# bow. I'm not looking for exact dimesions b/c the design of the bow will play a big part. I know you can build a great bow with very little wood. I'm just looking for a ball park figure. Thanks

Start with about 1/2" at the fades and 1/4" at the tips. Ipe is very strong, thus it need not be as thick as other woods. Hickory and Osage start at 5/8" to 3/8"

I know for the one I built, I needed 5/8" at the handle for the handle not to pop off. Or you can put a power lam on it between the boo and IPE.
