Howdy to all!! I am new to this site and traditional gear as well. I have purchased a takedown recurve and am trying to get proper arrows. I have a question about arrow feathers. I shoot a right handed bow. My question is: What type of helical do I need on my arrows? Left or right? Or does it not really matter. I thank you ahead of time for any help you can send my way. well I guess it's a matter of preference..the arrrow
spining is to stabilze it in flight. U could just
use a straight fletch. if all other things with
the bow and arrows are proper they will fly straight.I use a right hand fletch, but i make bamboo and wooden arrows and i guess because i'm
right handed i naturally go that way. I have lots
of straight ones too and they fly just as good.

I agree..I have shot both with no difference noticable. I am a RH shooter and I now use only LW feathers on a left helical jig. What ever you pick(if you are fletching them yourself) just rememver you have to stick with LW feathers on a left helical jig, and right hand feathers on a right helical jig. Good luck

It doesn't matter. If you're right handed that doesn't mean you have to use RW feathers. You can use LW/RW in as many ways as you can think of, but just remember, when your building arrows, make sure they are all from the same wing. Don't mix RW with LW on the same arrow.

Thanks for all the responses. I have some more questions about feathers. Does it really matter if I put the feathers 1 inch or 4 inches from the nock? Will the arrow fly goofy if I had the feathers too far forward? Is there a rule of thumb for this step?

As far as where to put the feathers, usually, you want them far enough away from the nock to miss your fingers but not so far down that they hit the arrow shelf.

Right you generally wouldn't want the feather sitting on the shelf at brace. It doesn't even matter if you staggered them. 3/4", 1", 1.5" whatever.
