I've been lookin into making my own lam grinder when I came across this product. It's called a "V" drum sander available at stockroomsupply.com.It comes in length's from 10" to 36" and should be easy to convert into a lam grinder. I was wondering if anybody has seen, used or has an idea as to how to make a jig for it? I'm sure it can be done, but right now I'm clueless! Any thought's would be appreciated!!!!

looks pretty good. do get just the drum and axle?? what about cost? looks like it would do the job.

I would be concerned with this sander as to how accurately can you adjust height of the rollers when sanding down to the specs you want.
-
Snag, I thought about that too. I was hoping maybe someone has seen or used it and would have a better idea. It's hard to tell from the video!!!

Sulphur, I think it's around $200 you get everything but the 1/4hp motor and build the box yourself. It also comes with 2-10yd rolls of sand paper, 100 and 180 grit...

I would think that you would be lacking in power with a 1/4hp motor.I have a performax 10-20 that has a 3/4hp on it and I would call that minimum.
The other issue is keeping every thing even and fed at a steady rate. or you will end up with a washboard effect. How would you grind a taper on that with the drum on the bottom? I have just bought a bigger sander for other projects as well as faster lam grinding and I may be selling the performax.
Just my thoughts,
Chuck

I've kinda givin up on the idea, I think it could be modified but it's more trouble than I care to do. If you decide to sell, send me a P.M!!!

Why dont try this? Make it with your favorite taper, and use your router. I make lams down to .040 with it.

I use a vaccum cleaner to hold the laminates down.
