Title: BUMPS, Working Handle Osage
Post by: ChristopherO on March 28, 2009, 01:37:00 PM
My oldest brother's nickname is Bumps.
I've just finished a selfbow in his honor and for his enjoyment.

This is my first working handle bow and my first self bow.  I've followed the ring before but they've been backed, not this one!

Braced at 5 7/8",

A glorified pin nock was employed,

A couple of knot holes plugged with sawdust and superglue, the belly was tempered, also.

The namesake and specs for finishing touches,

Full Draw, under the 30" that he will be using, but a good representation of how it bends.

I am very pleased with this design and how it shoots to point of aim so easily.  Eventually I will have to make one for myself at 60#/-.

Beautiful!   I love how the dark and light colors of the wood show so well.

what is the limb width at its widest?  how about thickness in the handle?  i am going to make a bow similar to this for my 30" drawing friend, and this bow looks just like what i had in mind!  great job.

crosseye,
I think the limbs were probably about 1 1/8"    wide at the fades.  It started around 1 1/4 and was worked down from there.
The handle was roughly 1"x1" before the leather wrap.  The leather was doubled over to add diameter.  It wasn't perfectly round in cross section as the wood has a pronounced hump in the back of the handle.
Thank you for the compliments.  My brother should be receiving it today or tomorrow.
