Title: 1st attempt at osage bow
Post by: brown wagon on March 27, 2009, 05:19:00 PM
Need some directions on how to proceed in getting a bow out of this osage stave?? I've worked with hickory but heard osage is like I'm going from Kindergarden to high school. So how do I get this stave whittled down to a bow.

Will you post a few pics of the stave? The back and ends and any knots, etc.

From my site:

 Osage flatbow dimensions (http://analogperiphery.blogspot.com/2008/05/osage-flat-bow-dimensions.html)

Drying wood and prepping staves (http://analogperiphery.blogspot.com/2008/08/drying-and-seasoning-wood.html)

hope that helps.

Also check out     Jawge\\'s (http://georgeandjoni.home.comcast.net/~georgeandjoni/)   and Sam\\'s site (http://www.geocities.com/salampsio/index.html)   for other selfbow info.

Thanks for the help with the direction to take on this osage stave, now when this 18 in. of snow melts away I can get back scrapping away.  Thanks again for the help,
