Title: Hickory Stave Disappointment
Post by: Wulomac on March 08, 2009, 01:03:00 PM
I split a very nice hickory stave,
I shaved it plain and true.
When halfway to a nice recurve
I found a split - it BLEW!

You will find when making bows of wood,
with all the thing we know
that even though you've tried your best
you really never know.

But if you take it as defeat
with all the things you know
the bow you want to build yourself
you'll really never know.

so get back up and try again
with all the things you know
another stave, a few more hours
and you will have your bow!   d;^)

I can relate! Also appreciate this post.
Wells, don't know how ya come up with poetry from the aggrivation of a broken bow, but Thank you.
Just broke a hickory myself a few nights ago, but it just makes me mad and I grab another stave and get to work....I have had two failures in a row , but today I had the joy of shooting in 2 new bows. One is an Osage and the other a Mulberry....I feel much better now  :goldtooth:   and I will sleep well tonight.......Terry

Nice, Pat. With the track record of my early days I must have learned a lot from all those breaks.  :)  Jawge

It shows, George!
I surprise myself sometimes with comes out of my brain. Too bad my poetry skills weren't around 40 years ago. May have assisted my high school career.

Okay Pat:

As I said once before
you folks are too cool.
I read and I learn
in this 'lectronic school.

Experience matters,
ask George and ole Pat.
They share all the answers
They know where it's at!

So just keep it coming,
turn out those bows.
Share your discoveries
so everyone knows!
