Post by: eman614 on March 03, 2009, 09:45:00 PM
how long do i need to leave a glued up bow in the oven for? i am using smooth on, and the oven will be at 170 degrees or so.

Four to five hours should be plenty.  When you turn the oven off, let everything cool down before you remove it from the oven.  I don't know if it makes a huge difference or not, but I prefer a slow cool down versus taking it out right away and cooling too quickly.

I believe the can says if you mix 2A:1B that it withstands temps better. Do you need to cook at all if you do this?

You do not have to heat Smooth on but I have found it works better and is a much faster curing time. if you dont heat it your going to need to have at least a 70 degree temperature and cure it for over 24 hours at a minimum in my experience. If you do use an oven I set mine on a timer and always glue up at the end of the day so that when the timer goes off after at least 4 hours by the next day it is cooled off enough to be a slow cool down and still not slow me up. I have multiple ovens and doing it this way curing time is never an issue for me
