Title: Maple
Post by: tim roberts on March 02, 2009, 05:20:00 PM
Ovber the last few weeks I have been working on a work bench, so I have a place to start this ummm, bow building hobby.  Anyway, I was able to get some good Maple, it used to be the basketball floor at Weber State Univerisity.  I have a bit left over, would this make good wood for tips, and handles?  If it will and if there is some on who is interested in some all I ask is to pay actual shipping.
Thanks,

I recently had some rock maple shipped to me by my uncle.  Wow, that stuff is hard.  It makes the red oak I'm used to working with feel like spongecake.  I think it will work well for you.

I'm thinkin it would work just fine, just laminate a bunch to make a riser.   You can also run it through a lam grinder and make riser accent stripes, and maybe even limb laminations.  Overlays, thumb rest, lots of possibilities.
