Title: what exactly is ...
Post by: Brian Krebs on February 06, 2008, 12:05:00 PM
forgewood ? I have never heard anyone say to hunt over in the forgewood forest.
Laminated birch? is that birch that has been glued together or compressed or something?

Hmmm, to me, forgewood is a trade mark for a pressed wood composite shaft.  Maybe talking about a spot in Alaska where the shaft was developed.???

Ha! Ha!, I see you peeking out from behind those forgewood trees! LOL!
Cupressaceae Compressium Lawsonea, I think is the Latin name-or something.

Forgewood,   Bill Sweetland built mechenery that compressed a 2" block( i think ) of po cedar into an arrow shaft, IMO some of the best shaft ever produced, no longer in production, altho i thank someone was producing a lesser version of them.
laminated birch is just that, birch veneer lamated to a thickness to make a shaft out of.  not bad i hear but never tryed one

Thanks for posting the link George. I read the article when it  ame out. I'm always relieved when almost-right rumors get polished  down to the facts.

I grew up near Eugene. Ore. and totally missed my opportunity  to  meet Bill and see his work.

Neat article George, thanks for posting it.  Man, I wish a dozen hardwood shafts were still $10!  Too bad they no longer make these.

Well. That explains a lot  :)

Thanks; now I am ederkated !

I find it interesting that with all the arrow information coming from Dr Ashby - forgewood apparently was something that we can reach back through time and grab ahold of for use now.

It looks like Hickory and laminated birch ~should~ be getting an increasing amount of our attentions.

 Its getting mine....    :archer:
