Don't use hide glue with artificial sinew.  Get the real stuff.  You can get it here:   http://www.hideandfur.com/inventory/7945.html

If you want to use the hide glue, place it in a metal cup or pot that you can use in a double boiler sytem (where you float or set the pan inside another pan of water on the stove).  Add enough cold water to cover the glue.  Use a double boiler and warm it until it melts.  Then add enough hot water to make it about the consistency of thin maple syrup.  Put your sinew threads in it and then werap the heads.  I usually epoxy them on first.  The wrap is mostly cosmetic.

Personally, I just chew on the sinew for awhile until it gets soft.  It has enough natural glue to keep ito on the head.  I sometimes add a bit of Titebond if it seems to be lifting.

I do like John does with real sinew.   You can use artificial sinew but use super glue to set it. Also silk thread works well and I do it like the art sinew.

I have used gut for hafting hawks and other large projects but it isn't very strong and it would be too bulky for arrows. You can take sinew down to a fine thread and even that is quite strong.
