Title: Kids Board bows

Guys,

I have searched the site and have only come up with one or two build alongs for kids bows.Any one have plans or a web site to show me the way? i would liek to build a tiny version fo rmy two year old to carry(drag) when we shoot. any help would be appreciated.

I'm open to any options.Something easy, doesnt even have ot be perfect, just something the bow can carry when he's shooting with dad and his uncle.I saw a post on a red oak board bow ,but cant find it now. I also need to come up with a string?

A wood self or simple backed bow would be the easiest. You can make one with most available lumber like red oak, hickory, ash or hard maple. For a simple backing silk, linen or even brown grocery bag paper will work fine when glued with carpenters glue. I prefer TiteBondIII but any of the carpenters glues will work.

I bought a 1/4" by 1.5" by 48" piece of oak from lowes or home depot and glued a handle on it and cut a pyramid bow and with a little tillering I got a $2.50 kids bow that looks great, I think and it is about 10 lbs

I have made several the same as tim-flood above. Glue on handle made from 3/4"x1.5"x7" oak to 1.5"x48"x1/4" oak slat from home depot. taper from fades to 3/8" tips. Shape handle. No tillering, 14# at 20" every time.

Guys,

How do you determine the spot on the riser to place the arrow rest? i read somewhere it need to be slightly above center. anyone have a measurement or plan?

There are 2 layout styles; symmetrical, meaning both limbs are the same length and the handle is centered on the stave...and asymmetrical meaning the bottom limb is a tad shorter than the upper.
 I prefer a symmetrical design now. I center my handle in the center of the bow. When I grab the handle the arrow pass is generally about 1" or slightly more above center.
  Glue your riser on but don't cut out the back profile until later. When the bow is tillered have the shooter grab the bow as if he(or she) is shooting and put a mark at the top of his hand. That will be the arrow pass.
  Either symmetrical or asymmetrical works well and it is a personal preference as to which to use. Both work equally well. I prefer the symmetrical because it is easier for me to see tiller.

Guys,

I finished the board bow for my son this weekend. all i have left to do is put a clear coat on it. I'll try to figure out how to post pics and send some over. It worked out well, Thanks again for the help.

P.S. Anyone know where i can get a string for it? need it by the weekend if possible.
