Title: correcting limb twist
Post by: KILLER B on December 30, 2008, 04:33:00 PM
Ok i have been doing some looking and learning.  I see some people say to run hot water over it and hold it till it cools and then others say to sand at mid limb?  What works best?  Sanding seems like it will take away from the performance and or add hand shock.  Those who have been there and done that please discuss further.  Thanks.

Glass, I tried the hot water thing last night and it is a little better.  It just seems when it gets pulled back they turn.

A few months ago I corrected one of my Kodiaks that had a slight lower limb twist. Instead of holding the bow under hot running water, I filled one bucket with really hot water and another bucket with cold water. The hot water was so hot that I cold just barely keep my hand in it. While the bow was strung up, I put it in the hot water bucket for about 4 or 5 minutes, pulled it out and twisted the limb until straight, then submersed it in the cold water bucket for a couple of minutes. I had to do this three times before it finally stayed, but is is on good shape now! I think one of the key things is to leave the bow strung up for a few days afterward.

from my website:  http://analogperiphery.blogspot.com/2007/03/fixing-twisted-recurve-limb.html

and I've never heard of sanding a fiberglass limb to correct twist. Doesn't sound like a good idea.

It is alot better right now.  Still has some hand shock and the fact that it is a Bear super mag 48 and the handle is like holding a 2x4 i can only shoot it a few times before it is trying the wear a hole through the second knuckle on my thumb.  I can shoot pretty good with it and it should make an excellent bow to hunt from a tree or out of a ground blind with.  If i can take it instead of my self bow.  Still trying to get my first deer with that.

Shamus you don't sand the glass part how ever you would sand the edge of the limb where the parralels and taper are.  Your right though i didn't want to sand it any either.
