I have always made my glass laminated bows with 0.030 glass and parallel core laminations. I think I have pretty much played this out. I actually killed 3 doe and a buck with my latest bow this year! So I was thinking about using tapered core laminations and maybe 0.030 glass on the back and 0.040 glass on the belly. I shoot for 50lb bows about 64 inch nock to nock. I put some reflex/deflex in the limbs. Anybody have experience using thicker glass on the belly?

I have used .050 glass on the belly and back of the few bows that I have built with great results. Please keep in mind that I am not a bowyer. I only have gained experience through extensive research and trial and error. The cores that I have used have always been parallel but I have just started a new bow with tapered core woods. I am shooting for a weight of 50-52# @ 28. The total limb thickness at the end of the fadeouts will hopefully be .390-.400.
What part of NC are you from? I live in the Triad area.

I haven't made many posts, so I guess I wasn't really clear. What I am wondering about is using different thickness of glass on the back and belly. For example, using 0.030 on the back, and 0.040 on the belly. Any ideas?

I may be wrong, but I think I've heard of usin thinner glass on the belly than the back.
But, don't let me lead ya astray!!

It's been argued over and over again on where the thicker should be used but on all of my bows it's on the belly. I tend to believe it works better under compression. I had a Morrison Recurve once and it was the same way.

I have made plenty of bows with thicker glass on the belly and thinner on the back, the worked well and never had a problem with any of them...Glenn...

You guys have got to see the new frontiers these bow builders are pushing. Some guys are getting bows pushing the 200 FPS mark with 10gpp arrows. Kenny knows some...does business with em i imagine
